To his excellency, President Ahmed Al Sharra @SyPresidency. We write to you to you today to request the immediate release of Journalist Bilal Abdul Kareem @BilalKareem who has been detained by Syrian Security Services for 17 days without charge.
In a recent speech you gave in a mosque, you instructed the people to hold you accountable so long as you obey God. Bilal was advocating for prisoner rights reform and Syrian citizenship for foreign nationals who helped depose the tyrant, Bashar AlAssad. He did not threaten the security of the state. He was upholding your request to hold you accountable, so how can he be detained for following your directive?
This is an unjust detainment and establishes a terrible precedent for the new Syria that we all have so much hope for. We call on your Arab hospitality, we call on your Islamic principles to order his immediate release and allow him to return to his family.
Thank you,
Imran Muneer

@ZakariyyaKathr1 Like Bilal, I am from an older generation where disagreement was not seen as grounds for wishing a person to be jailed - are there even any charges? I suppose a trial would be too much to ask?
I am free to speak, so:
@bilalkareem has said and done many things I disapprove of and many things that make me angry, but I have never seen him say, or do, anything he deserves to be in jail for.
Allah be with him.
Please support brother @BilalKareem’s family and keep him in your prayers. There have been ZERO updates on his arrest by the Syrian government which is concerning to say the least. If you were arrested, he would speak up for you. Speak up.

@Assimalhakeem I know it would be very unhealthy for a bereaved person to create an (otherwise halal) chatbot or similar, to emulate the deceased and would never condone it for that reason alone, but I was wondering if such a thing would also be sinful?

@Elizrael@adamrasgon@IKershner@ronenbergman I cannot read the whole article. Over many years I have learned that you are a rare soul who sees what is there and says what is there. Of all people you did not deserve to be hurt this way, and I am so glad you are safe.
I’m thrilled to share some wonderful news with you all — my book ‘Critical Conditions’ is now available in English, beautifully translated by Alessandro Columbu!

Syria in the last 2 days:
Three Christians were assassinated.
Three Alawayts were assassinated
Three Sunnis were assassinated
Those happened in different areas. Its clear that someone is trying to start a civil war by turning Syrians against each other same what happened in Iraq and Lebanon.
@BilalKareem I am not a particular fan of polygamy (though what others choose is absolutely not my business). However, though I recognise the political convenience, when there is more than one wife I have a problem with the erasure of the others, which is definitely unjust and unIslamic.
I can appreciate his wife’s support for her husband. However, I am confused. It was just some years ago when his group was threatening to arrest women for wearing flamboyant colours in public and many brothers had to talk him down from such an act. What changed?
