Gotta give a talk at work about AI. They're looking for insights. Help. Tricks to make them more effective. All I've got is:
So, then I went to the Shoggoth: 'do you reckon you could make this faster, I dunno rewrite it in c or whatever??', and the Shoggoth was all: 'yes sir'.
@Fightincowboy Just saying... Now, I'm not going to go online and whinge about ugly women in video games, coz I don't care all that much. But by the same token, I'm also probably not going to buy those games. It's not like anyone had an issue with Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
@SteelSeries Great customer support. All Sony told me when the hinge broke on my WH-1000xm6's was: "Sorry, our warranty doesn't cover your fat head" ... 😭
@_navicstein@dhh my work refreshed monitors in the office, and now my m2 mac mbp can only use 1 of the monitors coz they got rid of the dock that supports display link... It's all just awful.
@_davidlimbrick I mean, you're right - but not in the way that you think you're right:

... yes, they never imagine it will be used against them ...
Laurie is simply wrong here. I don’t believe in argument from authority, and you should check that what I am saying is true rather than believing me because of my background, but this is actually an area of my expertise. I gave the keynote at the LangSec conference years ago, which was started by the folks who wrote the original “weird machines” paper to discuss the very problem they identified, and I really, really understand the topic.
No, there aren’t an infinite number of bugs in code because of “weird machines”. The existence of such a path is often a single discrete bug in parsing. Get rid of all of the parsing and unparsing bugs, and that category disappears.
We are clearing out decades of bugs all at once, so it should not be surprising that in coming months individual software packages will report thousands of security bugs in a single go. This is good. We are getting rid of them. It will be like this for the next year or more. It will, however, end.
No, there are not an infinite number of such bugs.
If anyone wants me to discuss this topic in detail, a podcast will work a lot better than an X post but I am happy to answer questions here.
@takeme2hobbiton Close to 40, I was 6 (in 1986) when my dad brought home an IBM XT with games like 'Alley Cat'. He said 'Max - we're getting a computer I think you'll like it', and I was all 'errr - what's a computer Dad?!'.
@colonelkurtz99 multiple men - gay af, would actively avoid. Multiple women - I guess I can see the appeal - but have never found myself in such a situation and am much happier with a single monogamous partner.
