A big win in the Supreme Court that creates more transparency in democracy. A bench of the apex court agreed with our petition (drafted and argued by our lawyers at @internetfreedom) that all orders regarding Internet suspension should be published.

At present, the Supreme Court is in the process of hearing pleas seeking guidelines for search and seizure of digital devices. IFF is providing legal assistance to @mediatrack_in in one of the petitions. 3/5
Along with the right against self-incrimination as upheld by the Delhi High Court, our petition also highlights the serious threat to the Right to Privacy that is posed by the unregulated search and seizure of digital devices. We will keep you updated on what happens next! 5/5
On the last date of hearing, the Supreme Court directed the Union to adhere to procedures in the 2020 CBI Manual for search & seizure of digital devices. The Petitioners have also submitted draft interim guidelines for consideration. Matter is now listed for February 6. 4/5

We at rhe Foundation for Media Professionals @mediatrack_in along with @internetfreedom have suggested to SC interim guidelines for govt authorities to follow when seizing journalists' devices and data. Court has ordered Centre to formulate guidelines by December 14.
The ASG told the court that the government has formed a committee to frame guidelines following their directions on the last date of hearing.

The Supreme Court today asked the Centre to come up with guidelines on seizure of journalists devices by 14 December in our petition on the same.

Justice Kaul pronounces order -
"...There has to be a balancing of interests and better guidelines need to be in place to protect media professionals. We would like ASG to work on this and come back on this issue...In view of the aspect that privacy is held to be a fundamental right.
