When BANOMOYA was song of the year end of 2018, I got a call for interview on a community radio station in KZN, Inanda fm; on the other line they had a father who had just lost her 6-year old daughter exactly as the midnight fireworks were blowing up in the moments when the song was playing on the radio. She had loved the song so much that she had been voting on her mom’s phone for it, hoping it would ‘win’.

Someone was firing random gunshots in the air & she got hit by a stray bullet. And that was her life, ended. In a joyous moment. Celebrating. Anticipating. Surrounded by loud love & joy. Gone.

One mid afternoon in 2004, i was laying in bed resting. Suddenly, my body felt a shock that I've never felt in my life before, i looked at my chest and saw blood pouring out. I screamed for my mother, she called my neighbor to rush me hospital.

It turned out i was hit by a stray bullet through the corrugated roof.

The bullet missed my heart by only a few centimeters. Anyone who shoots guns aimlessly in public is a potential murderer..
