I built a complete, market-ready app in less than 2 weeks, without hitting my AI plan limits once (yes, including the 5 hour limit).
That's over 30,000 lines of code, all written with frontier models, Claude Code and Codex.
The reason is pretty simple. I didn't rely on just one AI, I used the best tool for each job.
My whole goal was to build something that didn't look vibe coded, which meant balancing proper backend engineering with real visual fidelity. No single tool is the best at both, so I stopped trying to force one to do everything.
I pay for Claude Max, ChatGPT Plus, and Gemini Pro, so I had a few options to play with.
ChatGPT/Codex has really generous limits, but every time I tried to use it for design, it kept making silly mistakes, so I stopped using it for anything visual.
Here's how I actually split the work.
I used Claude Code running Opus as my orchestrator, basically the team lead. It doesn't write much of the code itself.
When I want to build a feature, I explain what I'm trying to achieve, and Opus writes a really tight, detailed brief for exactly what needs to be built.
I take that brief to Codex, which handles the backend. Codex writes the code but doesn't commit or deploy anything, it just writes it and leaves it.
Then Opus reviews what Codex did, and only if it approves does it deploy it.
The frontend works the same way.
Opus writes the prompt, then a Claude Code session running Sonnet builds the actual UI, since Sonnet has the best eye for design, while still being relatively cheaper.
Then Opus crosschecks it again.
So basically I treated Opus like a software engineering team lead, Codex like a junior backend developer, and Sonnet like my frontend developer.
That split is most of why I never hit a limit.
I think the highest I hit was about 71%, because @ClaudeDevs reset our limits on Thursday.
The heaviest work, actually writing the code, mostly happens inside Codex, which has the most generous limits.
My Claude usage stays light because Opus is mostly planning and reviewing instead of grinding out code all day.
The last piece was that I never let a single Opus session run too long.
Once my main Claude Code session hit around 70% of its context, I'd get it to write a handover prompt, basically a summary of where we were and what was left, and I'd start a fresh session with that.
So I was never dragging around a bloated, slow session, and I never wasted my limit on a context that was half full of old stuff.
Tomorrow I'll go deeper on that last part, how I kept memory consistent across all three tools and every session, so nothing ever got lost between them.
