KSC ‘19 - Biology and Secondary Ed.

Check out my final reflection on senior seminar! #KSCBIO https://t.co/OB6FvNMm7q

[Meghan Hoffmann @megdhoffmann]

I believe in this day and age it’s a great way for people to stay updated in the science community, particularly the general public, I couldn’t count the number of times my mom saw something about science on Facebook and excitedly told me about it! #KSCBIO

[Dr. Karen Cangialosi @karencang]

#KSCBio discussion continues today 10:00am EST
Q3: As the public grows more skeptical of science, how can #KSCBio students play a role in educating about and supporting the reliance on scientific facts?
Q4: Can social media play a valuable role in science ed and communication?

[Meghan Hoffmann @megdhoffmann]

@RachelGravesBio @kjobio96 Exactly what I just tweeted! So important to prepare students to be able to read and understand scientific articles

[Meghan Hoffmann @megdhoffmann]

@KSCbio I personably believe it is incredibly important for the general public to be scientifically literate. A great way to ensure this is to teach high school biology in a way that includes comprehending scientific articles (this may be more geared toward my fellow teachers)

[Meghan Hoffmann @megdhoffmann]

@CollinCoviello @MamieKingBio Sadly most students don’t make it off campus at all, it’s something that should be changed!

[Meghan Hoffmann @megdhoffmann]

@RachelGravesBio @doug_ericson Good idea for our classrooms @RachelGravesBio @kjobio96

[Meghan Hoffmann @megdhoffmann]

#KSCBio an awesome way to get involved in Keene’s community is to go to the high school’s games, plays and events! (Especially my fellow preservice teachers). It’s a great way to be apart of the community and see awesome productions!

[Meghan Hoffmann @megdhoffmann]

@karencang thoughts on doing a twitter chat about favorite memories in the keene state college biology department over the last four years? #KSCBio

[Dan Conlon @ConlonD13]

Find your study place early, some people don’t like the library, you can use dorm study rooms, the DC, or even a nice spot on the quad (weather permitting), just whatever puts you in a productive mind space #KSCBio

[Meghan Hoffmann @megdhoffmann]

Scary things can also include signing up to present at the AEC conference (or any other), BUT it’s a great experience and your resume will thank you for it

[Sarah Larsen @sarahlarsen2019]

Advice I’d give a first year student at KSC would be to embrace EVERY part of college life. College is weird. It’s made me do things that are simultaneously the most amazing and terrifying things I’ve ever done!! Push yourself out of your comfort zone

[Meghan Hoffmann @megdhoffmann]

Also get to know the area you’re living in! There are usually fun places to get outdoors and away from the stress of school, my favorite places around keene are gap mountain, mount snow, a few swimming spots and the bike trails! #KSCBIO

[Meghan Hoffmann @megdhoffmann]

The best advice I can think to give to incoming first years that are interested in science would be to not be afraid to talk to your professors! They often have the inner gossip about the research labs and other ongoings in the science community! #kscbio
