A thing overlooked here is how little southerners under 40 care about Confederate heritage. Southern boomers still care about it, but their children and grandchildren don't. Also many whites living in the South don't even have Confederate ancestors, further diminishing its importance.

The factor keeping Confederate heritage alive is that it's seen as WOKE to want to take down these monuments, so people reflexively oppose it for this reason rather than out of ancestral reverence

The FDA is very large and complex organization, and this complexity is perhaps beyond your ability to understand. It has two sides, food, and drugs. There isn’t much interaction. At the very top, there are scores of political appointees who try to satisfy the politicians who appointed them, the politicians who allocate funds for them, and the industries that fund the politicians. I suspect they may be corruptible. Beneath them is a layer of managers, who generally are involved in organizing and managing the business operations. It is possible they could be corrupted, but in general, their impact is minor so corruption would be aimed at their bosses. Finally at the bottom layer are people Who are like soldiers. They devote their lives to improving your lives. These scientists don’t give a shit who the president is. All they care about is doing good research that will pass review panels and get published and prestigious publications that will be read by industry and hopefullyimprove the quality of food and save lives. There are also inspectors who go to farms and slaughter houses to make sure that your food is safe to eat. Statistics show that deaths from foodborne illness has been in a steady decline since the FDA was created decades ago.

Your health is at risk. My wife is a PhD microbiologist. She retired from the FDA in 2018. She and her team did vital research on food safety. They developed rapid testing methods for detecting pathogens (one of her tests was adopted by McDonalds). She was involved in identifying the pathogens found in BlueBell ice cream and Jack-in-the-Box and many other cases. There were a dozen or so other teams in her lab working to save lives and make food safer. They all got the axe today. And don't give me the BS that the FDA is corrupt. These are scientists not politicians. She couldn't even accept a box of donuts from an equipment salesman and they made me sell my stock in OXO Good Grips because the FDA regulates kitchen tools. They worked long and hard for you. This is sad.

How strange. Today a hand gesture just like this happened again except it was Elon Musk making it and you said it wasn’t a Nazi salute. Yet two months ago you had no trouble recognizing that the same gesture, made by the lady in the photo, was a Nazi salute. What changed, ADL?

As a Jewish person, I find myself disgusted by the willful and intentionally ignorant embrace of Musk by the @ADL. The Musk salute was clear and for the ADL to go soft and weak today is something that I just can't believe.
