You all aren’t grasping how sinister it is for Disney to go out of their way to cast a white girl, whitetina and a wasian.
And this is a misrepresentation of what TCG was. It wasn’t simply about diversity, it was about representing the underrepresented.
Every girl could’ve been as dark as the black girl. Could’ve casted a Filipino or Cambodian baddie. Latin American has no shortage of melanated indigenous people. But nah, everybody gotta pass a paper bag test…
Salli Richardson-Whitfield makes Emmy history as the first black woman to receive two nominations for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.
In 2024, she made history as the first Black woman to receive an Emmy nomination for this category as well.
Everyone is rightfully focused on Black-girl representation, but other POC should be mad too. Why is the Asian “representation” Wasian? Why is the Latin “representation” white-passing? Disney could’ve gotten away with diverse casting if they weren’t scared of ACTUAL BROWN PEOPLE.
THANK YOU. I literally said they could’ve casted a fully black girl, a biracial white black girl, a blasian and an Afro Latina girl and nobody would’ve said a thing. Like why you white washing this cause let them reboot high school musical with an all black cast they would’ve had a fit.
