Today, we commemorate victims of Russia’s downing of MH17.

Eleven years ago on this day, Russia shot down a Malaysian airlines flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, killing all 298 people of multiple nationalities onboard.

Our condolences to everyone in the Netherlands, Australia, Malaysia, and Belgium who lost their loved ones on that tragic day.

Since first hours after the crime, Moscow made every effort to shift the blame and avoid accountability. Russian officials and propaganda promoted fakes and conspiracies.

But the truth won out over time. The Hague District Court in 2022, ICAO Council and ECHR in 2025 made it clear that Russia is fully responsible for this crime.

This case proves that no matter how hard Moscow tries to deceive everyone and deny its responsibility, justice is inevitable.

It is critical that not only the executors, but the entire chain of command is held accountable for the murder of innocent people onboard MH17. We will continue working together with partners toward this end.
