Today's blog by @mel_tier from @PrincetonSPIA takes a brief look at the interaction between the history of environmental justice activism in the U.S. & the federal environmental justice policies that have now been halted by the current presidential admin:

10. So the question isn’t whether Harris listened to voters’ economic concerns. She did. The question is why voters didn’t hear her. The question isn’t whether she “moved too far to the left” on transgender issues, etc. She didn’t. The question is why voters believed otherwise.
So, what does the re-election of Donald Trump mean for climate change?
We can make some educated guesses based on his first term, his campaign, and the expressed wishes of his allies.
A few of my thoughts as a thread. 🧵
To everyone who is afraid of what happens next, I share your fears. But what we do next is important.
We have to learn from what happened. And then, make a plan. As we confront a second Trump presidency, here’s a path forward: 🧵
It is a really jarring moment to be a historian. To know what might be coming is alarming. To realize that no one around you sees it or acknowledges it is a weird place to be in. Its like time traveling without time traveling. 1/8
In 2020 I was one of 7 dems that won a district that Trump won, so I held a series of listening sessions with people who voted for Trump and voted for me to understand their actions. I reread the transcripts yesterday and much of it felt like it could have been said today. THREAD
Thank you @DrBobBullard for the encouraging words this morning: we are in a long-term, multi-generational relay race and the end goal will ALWAYS be justice for all.

As we start to hear the finger pointing punditry, let’s not be confused. The deep roots of racism, sexism and xenophobia is what happened here. America has always been an idea and white supremacy remains the original sin and the enemy of our ideals. Capitulation isn’t an option!
Since 1995, New Jersey has hosted a state-run buyout program called Blue Acres, which has been funded through a combination of federal disaster grants as well as state appropriations through both bonds and franchise taxes:

MLK’s daughter writes: A vote for Kamala Harris is not an endorsement of US funding for the war. It does not mean you are forsaking your right to protest her actions and policies. But she is the candidate who will protect our constitutional right to protest.

I have some real concerns about what another Trump presidency means for women in this country — and I wanted to share some of my thoughts. If this resonates with you, send this video to every single person you know and remind them what’s at stake in this election.
We need to be very clear about this. NOAA will be broken up & privatized under Trump. So you will literally have to PAY to get weather information. The very thing that is saving people right now, by telling them to evacuate, will be gone under a second Trump administration.
Prediction: after Helene and Milton, this is going to be in no small part a climate election.
#HarrisWalz2024 is not perfect on this issue, but they are a hundred times better than #TrumpVance2024
Vote for survival, solidarity, and solar
Since the people have demanded civics content for me, ask and you shall receive. GO VOTE I BEG OF YOU. Call your city clerks and make sure you know what your plan is on Election Day! We’ve got a lot riding on this one for everybody, let’s get this work in family.
WOW: Good for CBS to immediately call out the climate connection to Hurricane Helene and push Vance on the need to address the crisis.
It’s rare to see the media mention climate in a debate, let alone in the second question. Well done.
