Costa Rica, once home to rampant logging, has now almost doubled the size of its rainforest. They turned it all around within a generation. It can be done.
Protect people and the planet.

America's first large-scale indoor vertical farm for strawberries in Richmond, Virginia. Using 30-foot towers, it produces over 4 million pounds of strawberries annually on less than an acre of land. This innovative method reduces water use by 90%, land use by 97%, and eliminates the need for pesticides.

It takes an entire city to prepare for extreme weather, and that’s exactly what we’re doing. We’ve activated our Heat Emergency Plan ahead of tomorrow’s heat wave, bringing every agency together to protect New Yorkers.
Across the five boroughs, we’re opening hundreds of cooling centers, deploying outreach teams and COOL vans, extending pool hours, and preparing for flash flooding. As temperatures rise, I urge every New Yorker to make a plan, stay informed, check on your neighbors, and spend time in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.
If we prepare early and look out for one another, we’ll get through this together.
Scientists across the country are expressing alarm as the Trump administration dismantles another tool for understanding how the planet is changing.
Starting this month, more than 900 deep-sea ocean sensors will be pulled out of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans off the coast of Washington, Oregon, Alaska, North Carolina, and Greenland.
Researchers say these are critical ocean observation tools.
William Brangham (@WmBrangham) explains.
This is really stupid, and it’s not getting enough attention.
The Trump administration is pulling a working $368 million ocean monitoring system out of the water, equipment taxpayers already bought, built, and sank into the deep ocean.
And they are doing it right when the oceans are behaving in ways that alarm the scientists who study them.
Record-breaking temperatures.
A system of Atlantic currents that may be lurching toward collapse.
The response?
Yank out the instruments and walk away.
That is not budgeting. That is smashing the gauges while the engine is on fire and calling it efficiency.
For what? The Trump administration dressed it up as a “nimbler approach” and “smart lifecycle management,” which is fancy nonsense for “we shut it off and hoped nobody would ask why.” There is no return-on-investment analysis. They cannot show taxpayers save a dime, because the gear is already paid for and the science it produces protects real money and real lives.
The kicker: the same people killing the monitors want to mine the deep sea for minerals. So they are destroying the only tools that could measure what that mining does. That is not an accident.
That is the point. You cannot see the damage if you break the instruments first.

Book bans aren’t just rising. They are being engineered. The same titles and tactics are spreading across states. What’s changing is not the number. It is the system behind it.

COMMENTARY: Let’s say it plainly: There has never been a president as corrupt as Donald Trump.
There is no close second in our history.

Trump’s use of taxpayer money to create a $1.8 billion political slush fund may be the episode of presidential corruption that is the most blatant and threatening to the constitutional order in modern times. https://t.co/5eyuoPGPb3
we live on a planet where trees warn each other of danger through underground networks. where octopuses dream. where elephants return to the bones of their dead and stand over them in silence. where bees communicate through dance, showing each other where to fly. where flowers bloom...where crows remember human faces -especially those who were cruel to them - and pass that memory on to their young. where ants build entire cities. where cats purr at a frequency that can help heal bones. where forests, after fires, grow flowers first.
GAME CHANGER: Montana just found the "exit ramp" to kill Citizens United. They aren't waiting for the Supreme Court—they’re going around them. 74% of voters are on board and corporate lawyers are PANICKING. This is how we win. 🏔️💸 https://t.co/LnVMFzEkDw
Shocking new testimonies reveal that US naval drones bombed several Ecuadorian fishing boats as part of Trump's 'war on drugs'
The fishermen survived the strikes, and disclosed the horrifying details
Mainstream media has ignored these vivid eyewitness accounts of US war crimes
Europe has not simply stepped back from Trump’s Iran war. It has slammed the door in his face and bolted it shut.
Spain denied US military aircraft access to its airspace and bases entirely, forcing American B-1 bombers to take a massive detour around the entire European continent, adding hours to every flight. Italy denied landing rights to US bombers. Poland refused the Patriots request.
Think about what that actually means. The U.S. military is flying around Europe like a delivery driver who has been banned from the motorway. Adding hours to every sortie. Burning extra fuel. Rerouting over the Atlantic because the neighbours will not let you through.
Trump responded by threatening to cut off all trade with Spain. Which is the geopolitical equivalent of a man being thrown out of a restaurant and threatening never to eat there again.
Nobody helps a loser. And right now, Europe has looked at this war, looked at the man running it, and made a collective and entirely rational decision to stay well clear.
You cannot threaten to annex your allies’ territory, lose a war, and then ring them up asking for the airspace. That is not how any of this works.
