This morning, we kicked off an exciting 2-day in-person country convening for the GRIC Africa Youth Leadership Program (YLP) Cohort VIII – Uganda Chapter

Youth Leaders are taken into Project Planning and Management. At the end of the six-month journey, every participant across East Africa will pitch a fundable project, and the top 3 will receive funding to turn their ideas into reality.

Patrick Ocen, GRIC Africa Program Coordinator for Uganda, urged the young leaders to show up fully for both the virtual and physical sessions. He reminded them that GRIC YLP has been championing youth development for nearly a decade, with many alumni already employed and thriving in their careers.
“You are in the right place right now to accelerate your career growth and development,” Ocen said.

In Uganda, AGYW (15–24) carry a higher HIV burden prevalence ~2.9%, and they account for ~75% of new infections among young people.

Access to PrEP, DVR, testing & choice-based prevention can change this.
