I once had a black teacher in highschool who said he spoke to a racist Chinese dude who lectured him on why American blacks stayed collectively poor.

He pointed out that in China when somebody gets rich they impart not only money but also knowledge to teach or help their relatives (especially the younger ones) learn how to make money on their own so that the wealth becomes truly generational. Even having them work for them or go through relevant classes and training.

Chinese dude contrasted this with blacks in the US who, when one person gets rich, often just become a perpetual keeper for the rest of their family, with the money getting squandered within a generation unless their extended relatives get cut off. Said he couldn't respect American blacks because of that.

Hearing this shit genuinely changed my teacher's perspective on things forever.

Blizzard was a game developer that was so popular that they used to have their own annual ComicCon style convention where fans from all over the world would come to meet the developers of their favorite games and learn what new stuff was coming.

Then, an unhappy faction who didn’t like the “frat house” atmosphere made a bunch of largely false allegations at the height of #MeToo. Lawyers were brought in to investigate, and they found email chains discussing the “Cosby Suite,” which was the hospitality suite at the convention hotel that Blizzard developers named for its carpets that looked like a Bill Cosby sweater.

These emails were from years before Cosby’s sexual assault conviction, but they were considered damning at the time and it was insinuated in the media that the men on the email chain were committing rape in the “Cosby Suite,” entirely because of the name.

Everyone on the email chain — men who had worked at Blizzard for decades and built the Warcraft, Diablo and StarCraft franchises — were fired in disgrace over this.

Alex Afrasiabi had his name stripped out of World of Warcraft. An Overwatch character named after veteran Blizzard developer Jesse McCree was renamed in the game. These guys did absolutely nothing wrong except joke with their friends in emails they never expected to be exposed as part of a witch hunt.

In the wake of the mass firings of veterans game designers, the entire culture of Blizzard changed as an institution, and the games changed too — for the worse. “World of Warcraft” became a cozy fantasy coffee shop game. “Overwatch” became a gay pride game. Nobody would go to a convention these days to celebrate these games or the people who now work on them.

The false sexual assault allegations were a pretense for a crowd of disgruntled nonbinary weirdos to seize the greatest game studio in the United States, but without the people they purged and replaced, they could not uphold Blizzard’s once legendary standard of quality and the studio collapsed into irrelevance.

When you see gamers celebrating mass layoffs at game studios, it is because things like this happened across the gaming industry. The hobby was conquered and transformed by people who believed gaming needed to change. But they changed it into something nobody wants to pay for, and now they’re all losing their jobs.

Been keeping a small eye on what has been happening at Blizzard, with all the new discoveries and the multitude of allegations that ended up over exaggerated or even false

Then I think of Jason Schreier, and his book.

I also remember wondering, many did too, “if he knew all these horrible things why did he take so long to report them”.

I think I have theory on that question now, and if I’m right…I think mere opportunism and hot takes is the least of Jason’s flaws.

This is my opinion but I am starting to think that the reason he “took so long to report them”, was because he was actually trying to use creative writing to exaggerate or even ‘manifest’ the “horrible things” to make Blizzard look really bad.

Why? Well, only he would know his goals wouldn’t he? We can all have our guesses.

I’m sure more things will come out concering Blizzard.

Gamers are one of the most oppressed groups because we used to be far more majority men. It was a "men's" club... and for too many of these women, they saw that as a threat, and organized to destroy it.

That's why it didn't matter if the games didn't sell or were commercially unsuccessful. The destruction of the IP and robbing men of their hobbies was the goal. destruction of Halo, WoW, and so many other popular franchises WAS THE GOAL.
