NEWS: City Council has identified $2.5 million that could immediately be used to prevent PPSD's proposed cuts to some bus passes for students and all winter and spring athletics.

PPSD has been aware of this offer since Oct. 22 but, despite the Council’s swift action to identify these funds, has not yet accepted.

On Oct. 23, Superintendent Javier Montañez wrote a letter to Council Chief of Staff June Rose, saying in part, “we will move forward with implementing the difficult decisions we have communicated to the City.” On Oct. 25, Council President Rachel Miller responded with a letter of her own, writing: "If PPSD is earnestly working with us to solve this problem, no is not a conceivable answer."

This funding is contingent on PPSD agreeing to a third-party review of its finances and to commit to spending the money on reversing cuts to sports and bus passes.

City Council leadership urges the district to seize this opportunity and prioritize student needs.
