Imagine if you traveled back in time and told parents in 2018 that in two years a virus would come along that causes brain damage, weakens the immune system, and would kill and disable millions, I mean we can all assume they would be worried.

Then imagine telling them that after a year and a half of trying to avoid that virus as a society, the vast majority would welcome infections and rampant sickness because politicians told them it was safe.

Derryn Hinch lived a life made for the front page.

The thing about Derryn was that you never had to wonder what he thought.

He told you straight.

He never shied from a fight and sometimes seemed to relish one. But his convictions were always real.

He cared deeply about people who had been let down. He believed victims should be heard, and justice
should be fought for.

And when he believed something was right, he gave it everything.

That took him from 3AW to the Senate, where he stood up for victims of child sexual abuse, and pushed
for stronger protections in the law.

He leaves behind real change for victims and survivors who for too long went unheard.

To Lynda, his family, friends, colleagues, and loyal listeners, our thoughts are with you.

Derryn recently said he wanted only two words on his headstone.

“He tried.”

He succeeded.

If you dread PPE, you have no business in medicine or public health.

You don’t hear people speak this way about helmets, seatbelts or condoms.

It’s only PPE for airborne viruses that folks take an issue with.

Their unwillingness to promote the right tools will kill people.
