Half of people with heart disease first find out after a heart attack. What if we could see risk years earlier using MRI, genetics, and blood tests? We introduce preCog, a multimodal AI for preventive cardiology trained on >500k images and genetic data from 1.25M individuals.
Every PhD student has to choose a supervisor. But few know how to.
Joan Bolker, EdD, counseled PhD students for 30+ years at Harvard, MIT, and Brandeis.
Here is her advice on how to choose a supervisor:
(Reposting for folks who started following me recently)
Student: I want to pursue an academic career. Do I have to do a PhD at a top university?

Thank you for showing me an example of how women should be. I hope I can be the same later in my career. As an international student looking for an opportunity, i get lost sometimes. Your advice and kindness helped a lot :’)

Not so long ago, I connected with Dr. Ona Wu from @harvardmed. She offered advice and guidance. This meeting was a highlight in my PhD applications journey. Her kindness and time made a lot of difference! A great example of how women elevate each other.

I have faced this glass ceiling as a citizen of a developing country since the start of my Ph.D. I am applying early for a visa for #CVPR2023, apparently, there is a 197 days processing time from Switzerland. Does someone know if they speed it up for conference presenters? @CVPR
As a first gen grad student, I had no idea what to expect as a PhD student and how it differs from other student roles. Two key things my advisor would tell every incoming PhD student to focus on: filling your toolbox, and building your network. #PhDVoice
Do you really believe in the fairness of the PhD admission process?
I know it’s extremely competitive and the committee have a tough job to select a few students from a large pool of candidates.
Yet, a recent incident made me question the whole process!
