Très bien. Mais puisque nous partageons le même espace économique, allons jusqu’au bout du raisonnement.

L’Allemagne a été l’une des grandes bénéficiaires de la construction européenne. Le marché unique lui a offert un immense débouché industriel. L’euro a supprimé le risque de change avec ses principaux partenaires et accompagné pendant deux décennies un modèle largement fondé sur les exportations.

Ce modèle avait aussi ses angles morts.

Sous-investissement public. Sous-investissement militaire. Dépendance au gaz russe. Sortie du nucléaire. Et pendant des années, une politique très accommodante vis-à-vis de la Chine parce que l’automobile, les machines-outils et la chimie allemandes y trouvaient leur compte.

Quand Paris poussait pour davantage de protection commerciale, de préférence européenne ou de fermeté face aux subventions chinoises, Berlin freinait souvent au nom de ses propres intérêts exportateurs.

Puis quand ces choix ont commencé à coûter cher, leurs conséquences sont devenues européennes.

La dette française est un problème. Évidemment.

Mais raconter l’histoire récente de l’Europe comme celle d’une Allemagne vertueuse entourée de pays dépensiers est une lecture particulièrement sélective.

L’Europe n’a pas seulement bénéficié de la puissance économique allemande.

La puissance économique allemande s’est aussi construite grâce à l’Europe et parfois au prix de choix qui ont fragilisé l’Europe entière.

À un moment, il faut arrêter de ne faire les comptes que dans un seul sens.

I remember going to the climate talks all the way back in 2009 and talking with Nepali activists and experts who were doing everything they could to sound the alarm that the “roof of the world” was melting and would start to crack in exactly these ways.

Events like the ones of this week aren’t just tragedies, they’re crimes. We’ve known for decades that the burning of fossil fuels would lead to disasters like this, but the industry and their politicians have continued to block action at every turn.

It’s past time we start making polluters pay for the damage they’ve done.

It was difficult for Reddington to fight “not guilty” because he was denied the bifurcation (split trial) twice, in March and May of 2026.

I have watched the entirety of the Lindsay Clancy trial. Every single minute of testimony. I have consumed ZERO outside media during the course of watching (which has been hard af)..Here are some thoughts I have prior to the jury verdict.
1.) I wish I had access to the grand jury testimony.
2.) Expert witnesses are not always experts.
3.) Regardless of whether or not one thinks she did it or not, or if she was in the right frame of mind or not, the police did not properly investigate this case AT ALL and their lack of thoroughness is shameful at best, intentional and lazy at worse.
4.) The prosecuting attorneys were not chosen well. They came off patronizing, disconnected and lacked a general understanding of what parenting and more specifically motherhood looks like. Jurors who are mothers will be hard-pressed to identify with them at all. They were genuinely unlikeable.
5.) The burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt is on the state and they not only did not meet their burden to prove she was in her right mind during the murder of the children, their own witnesses and evidence raised doubt whether she committed the crime at all.
6.) One of the most pivotal moments of the trial for me was during the cross examination of the state's last expert rebuttal witness, Kevin Reddington read the prosecutions own opening statement to him and asked if he agreed with it and he said no that it minimized what Lindsay was going through. It was a masterclass in legal defense and I was so insanely impressed.
7.) If I were a juror in that courtroom, as I have pretended to be, I would have so many unanswered questions that create doubt, I would not be able to convict her.
