@craigunger No question he ruined the world square where you could get incredible info directly from the source. What an epic fail to let him have control of this site. Long live the real Twitter!

We don't know this man, Doug Whitley, but he's definitely an American hero for writing this excellent letter-to-the-editor.

🚨 MIT just published the most comprehensive report, proving universities have no remaining reason to exist.

A committee of professors and students spent five months studying what AI is doing to learning on campus. The findings are a warning, not a footnote.

Study groups are disappearing. Office hours are emptying out. Problem sets and take-home exams no longer prove anything, because AI can produce a credible answer to almost any undergraduate assignment.

The report has a name for what's happening to students: "cognitive surrender." Reaching for AI the instant something gets hard, before even trying to think it through.

The numbers back it up:
46% of MIT undergrads use LLMs daily
90% say they're worried about their own overreliance
More students now believe AI makes them replaceable than believe it makes them capable

MIT's answer wasn't more surveillance. No AI detectors, no lockdown browsers. The committee called that path unreliable and said it just breeds distrust.

Instead: oral exams, semester-long portfolios, in-person project work, a required social component in every subject. They're even floating rethinking grades entirely, since without a GPA to game, most of the incentive to cheat disappears.

The most famous tech school on the planet just admitted the machines broke its teaching model.

Its answer was more humans, not more software.

I'm often in agreement with you on much but I can't agree with you on this one. Zelenskyy has been forcing himself to kiss the ass of Trump for years. It hasn't helped. For his own dignity and the dignity of his nation, enough is enough. Either Trump wants to help or he doesn't, and it's clear that he would like for this conflict to end on terms entirely favorable to Putin, terms that call for capitulation on the part of Ukraine with no real lasting peace, terms that will inevitably lead to the cessation of existence of Ukraine and the executions of their highest government officials. Zelenskyy knows this and I can't blame him for having had his fill of having to play this foolish game of nicey-nice with the scum who want him and his nation dead. This war ends when Russia is defeated. That would already have happened if not for Trump helping out his business buddy. The United States once had moral clarity. It doesn't today with this trash as president.

@juliaioffe Wut?

The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. https://t.co/8AyV60gg1X

Jared Kushner’s hacked phone revealed he promised MBS and MBZ he would push their agenda with Trump if they participated in a secret fund, with the two royals initially discussing over $10B before ultimately placing at least $2B into his accounts.

If you weren’t supporting @AbdulElSayed before this amazing exchange, listen to it & you’ll be in his corner. His sense of who he is, how fortunate he’s been, & what he wants for the rest of us is so beautifully expressed.
Can’t wait for him to win & bury the bigotry!

Elon Musk is an active traitor, a lifelong conman, and a genocidal racist. Having captured the president, he is now waging full fledged war on global democracy in alliance with Vladimir Putin.

I wrote this 12/28/22. He must be stopped.

A brief review of recent technical “errors” at Meta:

1. Restricting the Facebook pages of Brazilian president Lula who is in a runoff election against a Trump-favored candidate

2. Shutting down the pages of Albanians protesting Jared Kushner’s plans to build a luxury resort in the country

3. Rejecting ads for a documentary critical of Elon Musk

4. Shutting down the No Kings instagram page in the middle of a major anti-Trump protest
