On this day, 54 years ago, on August 28, 1971, a group of activists protested on Parliament Hill in the first large scale gay rights protest held in Canada. This is why the annual Pride parade happens in August in Ottawa, to honour this tradition of protesting and demanding for equal human rights.

This past weekend, the village chose to stand in solidarity with Palestine for the annual Pride parade. Because the village knows that Pride was and always will be a protest. That from Stonewall to Palestine, resistance is not a crime. Death to corporate Pride parades and pink washing, and may the legacy and memory of Pride as a protest live on like we saw in Ottawa this past weekend.

There is no Pride in genocide. Money for gender affirming care, not for war and occupation. No one is free until everyone is free. Freedom for Palestine. Solidarity forever. 🇵🇸🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
