Great news for anyone who shops at Shoprite, Checkers, Spar and Pick n Pay🛍️🛒

For years, these strong anchor tenants have had exclusivity clauses in their lease agreements. This means that shopping mall landlords would not allow competing grocery supermarkets to take up space in the same mall as Spar, Pick n Pay, Shoprite or Checkers. Almost 2000 #shopping centres around #SouthAfrica have these exclusivity clauses in place. This limits options when it comes to the buying power of the consumer.

The Competition Commission has managed to reach an agreement with all of these retailers to end their exclusive lease agreements over the next few years. This move finally opens the door for competing grocery retailers and most importantly SMME’s. This will also encourage fairness, a healthier landscape for competition and innovation.

Here's a really cool idea for a Saturday morning if you live in Joburg, especially now that it's getting warmer. Make your way to Taroko Trail Park located inside of the Modderfontein Reserve for a 5km or 11km walk. When you're done, finish off at the Fourways Farmers Market. The owners have done an incredible job at adding little touches and the place gets better every time. I generally do the longer walk because I love being out in nature and the added bonus is, I've built up a proper appetite for the market.

My hope is that these pictures will inspire you to act Like a Tourist in your own country. There's so much to do. All it takes is getting off the couch with a sense of adventure.

You will be astounded by the beauty on this walk. There's also the option to ride your bike, have a picnic, or even do some fishing.
