@Hangryrori@bdgreer@VValtzy_ “escapism” as in “it would be so cool if my life was like this instead of how it is currently”, definitely very apolitical, not related to how the artist prefers the world to be at all, nope, no politics there, for sure for sure
(“Wrong”. what are you the art police?? lmao)
@caramel_stupid@bdgreer@VValtzy_ archaeologist, in the sense of “would this piece of art give me insight on the society and biases of the artist” — and the answer is always yes, which maybe doesnt seem useful. but it’s nice to promote thinking about what the biases of the artist are, i think?
@caramel_stupid@bdgreer@VValtzy_ mm yeah, makes sense. i guess i try to view it less about “is this artist trying to influence me” (although in a way, all people sorta do - like when you tell your friends about your interests, you probably would be happy if they became interested too) — but as an archaeol(…1/?)
@vendo_sacole@bdgreer@VValtzy_ maybe saying “i like hamburgers” doesnt seem political, but in a world where mcdonalds runs the world or in a world where all meat is banned, it would be
is it only considered “political” in a setting when it is controversial? i guess this depends how you define “political”
@pepperjackmack@bdgreer@VValtzy_ mm, maybe a better phrasing would be, “carrying a judgement on the depicted subject”?
thinking of something as good or bad, or even neutral is itself a political statement
but also if we’re working with different definitions of what “political” means then the discussion’s moot
@bdgreer@VValtzy_ maybe a landscape doesnt come across as political, but “look at this view! (positive)” is a political statement — just as “children should have fun learning to read!” might not feel like a very political statement until public education comes under attack? if that makes sense 3/3
@bdgreer@VValtzy_ for example, art of a husband and wife might just read as a cute family portrait, but theoretically it carries the same amount of “political meaning” as art of two husbands/wives, polgamy, or an interracial couple, or any other combination that might “feel” more “political” 2/?
It would take far more than a month to honor the contributions of queer and transgender New Yorkers.
From the Cercle Hermaphroditos in 1895, the first trans advocacy group in the United States, to the drag balls of the Harlem Renaissance, to the Stonewall uprising, to the Lesbian Herstory Archives, to ACT UP!, founded in 1987 as queer people fought for their lives while the Reagan administration looked away, New York City's history has long been shaped by queer and trans New Yorkers.
To all our queer and trans neighbors: you deserve a City where you can afford to live safely, openly, and joyfully.
Happy Pride, New York City.
@NocturneNugget yeah, i think “recurring aspect of the design shaped in a certain way” is more accurate than “body is x/y shaped” lol
definitely somewhat loose, but also i feel like very probably an intentional design feature (especially obvious in like, the mega-z designs) by the designers
@NocturneNugget@cecililytweets there’s definitely stronger and weaker examples, but if the argument is that the designers intentionally added motifs of xs and ys to the megas to reflect the lore of xerneas and yveltal being the cause of megas, i did get convinced that yeah, probably
@NocturneNugget@cecililytweets absol gains another horn and its bang rotates slightly, wings on its back and paws, and is deliberately posed in art to reflect y-ness
lucario gains the xerneas tree in its chest, its face paint gains an x overlay
sceptile (most obvious from concept art) gets x’s all over
etc
@pk_kenzie whereas on a film maybe makes it harder to see the characters, but ultimately thats up to the directors/artists and what they’re trying to do so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i think both look nice 2/2
@pk_kenzie i do think it’s a bit of a silly complaint because the lighting in mario kart world helps emphasis the colorful characters which i think is a good choice.
but i guess the backlighting in games makes the background pop which could be nice for a racing game to see the track? 1/2
