MIssouri voters voting for abortion rights, an increase in the minimum wage, and paid sick leave, and a senator and a president who strongly oppose these things is where we are in a nutshell
sleepy joe you’ve got two months. go crazy. eliminate all student debt. legalize marijuana. make tampons and condoms free. ban cybertrucks. shit in the oval office’s air vent. kidnap barron. the world is your oyster buddy
People are messaging me that they thought Harris would win and were comforted and hopeful by my confidence. I'm sorry. I got it wrong. I own it like I did in 2016. I overestimated my faith in my fellow Americans. I thought it would break for her and she'd have the edge but the opposite happened.
people who say "well trump was president in 2016 you'll live 🤓" do not realize tens of thousands of people died because he downplayed a pandemic and women today are dying because of the 3 supreme court justices he appointed
honestly wish we lost this because of Gaza and that if we'd run on a socialism that we'd have won.
It'd be a lot less depressing than the fact that we lost because people want to punish immigrants, criminalize trans people, don't understand inflation and don't mind facism
There will be a lot of hot takes blaming Harris and Democrats for this and that. Still, maybe the simplest explanation is the right one: Americans didn't want a female President again and many live in a right-wing information ecosystem that dominates news & how people see the world.
If they had a lick of sense and an ounce of bravery they would go scorched earth in these final months. Lost the presidency and the senate? Just do it. But I don’t think they have it in them.
One thing I do worry about, is that the “solidarity” between “people of color” has been significantly damaged.
Watching Latinos chase model minority status has never sat *well* with black people, but this is a wound the Black community won’t soon forget.
A reminder that tens of millions of Americans believed the country was heading in the wrong direction because they believed the economy was doing badly and that crime was going up. None of that is true.
People - including top US journalists, perhaps especially top US journalists - don’t quite get how bad it’s going to be. How beyond term one it’ll be. How bad the Musks and RFKs will be.
I don’t think even I fully accept how bad it’s going to be and I have been shouting how bad it’s going to be for years.
