They were strange days—curious dream-like days—and they followed each other silently, like shadows over grain fields. Edith Allonby, The Fulfilment, 1905.
In 1796, George Washington placed a newspaper advert offering a $10 reward for the return of Ona Judge, an enslaved woman who escaped from his household in Philadelphia.
She had served as Martha Washington’s personal maid and later said she fled because she wanted her freedom and had learned she would be given to Martha’s granddaughter, Eliza Parke Custis Law. Two days after her escape, Washington placed a newspaper ad offering a $10 reward for her return.
Judge reached Portsmouth, New Hampshire, but Washington continued trying to try to recover her. He used federal officials and local contacts to locate her, and she refused to return unless she was promised eventual freedom.
Washington rejected that condition. Another attempt to seize her was made in 1799, but she was warned in time and escaped again.
She remained free for the rest of her life.
A favorite pastime of mine is searching through the old occult, spiritist, parapsychological, and ufo magazines for atypical, anomalous and high strangeness reports.
@MichaelGrahamSC I disagree. I live in Europe; I communicate daily with Ukrainian refugees. What the Blubbering Fatberg in the White House and the Shrieking Terror of SpaceX do is a warcrime, plain and simple.

The task to properly store my occult and ufo magazines will take longer than I expected… but it’s good to bring order and accessibility to these items on my shelves. And it’s fun to feel the energy of the old magazine makers who did their best to report on the mysteries.
These 1960s ufo magazines from Denmark arrived today. Fascinating material for the study of ufo history. The letters section contains interesting information; a weird uso sighting seen by the crew of a fish trawler.
Studying ufo reports in other magazines than the US ones gives a surprising variety of the manifestation of the phenomenon. Here’s part of my collection of French ufo magazine ‘Lumières dans la Nuit’ (Lights in the Night).
My collection of the now defunct IUR magazines (International UFO Reporter), from 1975 to 1998. There are some weird gems in there, like the possible 1911 abduction encounter, not found in modern ufo literature.
Edited by Jerome Clark and published by CUFOS, it was top tier.
A number of British 1900s science fiction books I have, were given as prizes to schoolkids, so the labels in the books attest. Stories about alien abductions and invasions, weird non-human intelligences etc. How did that strain mix with the later modern ufo phenomenon?
Imagine the wheels covered in eyes spinning like a gyroscope and emitting heat and light - and you either have a time portal, a UFO or "Ezekiel's vision of the Chariot of God" - from The Book of Ezekiel - one of the major prophetical books of the Old Testament.
