VICTORY! We've been fighting to get free MATA bus passes for high school students. Now SCS is preparing a pilot program with 3,000 passes for students and guardians. Thank you to the @BRIDGESUSA students who first proposed this last year! #TransitJustice https://t.co/5LuYJcC4j3
MBRU secretary Justin Davis: Even though we spend so much time convincing non-riders that improving transit is important, riders are consistently left out when decisions get made about our bus system. #TransitJustice
Listening to testimonials from students who have used MATA to get to their classes and jobs, and travel with their families. We appreciate hearing your stories! #TransitJustice
Shelby County @MayorLeeHarris: County investment in transit would help us address the issue of climate change. One way to reduce our over-reliance on fossil fuels is making transit accessible to as many people as possible. #TransitJustice
MBRU co-chair Cynthia Bailey: if MATA will continue to reduce capacity on buses because of COVID protocols, we should run more buses to accommodate rider demand. #TransitJustice
.@policyvspoverty's Youth Voices Transit Discussion is about to start! We can't wait to hear from young folks in Memphis who want to see our bus system improve for everyone. Watch it here! #TransitJustice https://t.co/ga2ufkcGCe
β We won $30 billion to protect essential workers and #SaveTransit riders from unjust service cuts and fare hikes!
πNow we need to stop @NYGovCuomo's unfair plan
to tax bus/subway riders w/ fare hikes + service cuts in NY's state budget! #UnFairhike

TOMORROW! MBRU will be part of this discussion about improving transit in Memphis, hosted by our new friends at @policyvspoverty. Sign up at https://t.co/MTpulHY2mb, and we hope to see you on the 24th at 5 PM!
Thank you to all the transit workers out there, especially our friends at @ATULocal713@1235Atu! We appreciate what you do for our communities every day!
We are looking for all kinds of participants (service providers, people with disabilities, family members of those with disabilities, educators, medical providers). Yes, we are asking participants to fill out whichever surveys fits their role best. Β https://t.co/OyM9Rs9LLr
Today at Union Station - Washington, DC, @SecretaryPete met with ATU Local 689-Washington, DC Pres. Ray Jackson, Local 1300-Baltimore, MD Pres. Mike McMillan, ATU members, and agency officials to discuss the new federal mask mandate for and other issues impacting transit workers.
We wanna hear from you: how has MATA been working--& not working--for you during the pandemic? How will MATA's upcoming service changes affect you? Let us know in the replies. And stay tuned for more updates from us soon!
-MBRU's EC (Cynthia, Sammie, Charles, & Justin)
Greetings, transit warriors: it's been a minute since we've been on social media--but MBRU's been working, checking in on our families & friends, and hitting the streets all summer & fall.
MBRU's been following MATA's recent service changes in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. In light of those changes & the City's Safer at Home order, our April meeting is CANCELLED. Stay at home if you can, and stay safe if you need to travel!
Thanks so much to everyone who came to our 8th Anniversary Celebration! We had a great time catching up with old friends, signing up new members, & looking back on past wins. Want to stay involved? We're meeting Saturday, March 14th from 12-2 at @YourConcourse! #TransitJustice
But we want to keep the wins coming, and to do that, we need you! Our first meeting of 2020 will be this Saturday, from 1-3 PM. If you have any questions about our current work or becoming a member, call us at 901-205-9737, or email [email protected]!
Happy New Year from MBRU! We want to thank everyone who supported us in 2019. From winning transit funding & supporting bus passes for students, to riding the bus with candidates for Mayor & City Council, we're proud of our work uplifting the needs of MATA users all over Memphis.
"Transit advocates said the governor should focus resources on better service, 'rather than spending $249 million the MTA doesn't have on a new police force it doesn't need,' as Danny Pearlstein with @RidersAlliance put it on Thursday." #Transit https://t.co/p0PSQU88o1
Bus riders have a lot to say about Memphis' new BRT plan! MBRU co-chair Sammie Hunter "spends almost two hours on two different buses trying to get to his job in Whitehaven, and believes the new service shouldn't start downtown." #TransitJustice https://t.co/nATzm9f7sS
