My latest essay is not about me. I am healthy, joyful, and live a blessed life. But about a larger paradox in modern MS care.
We are living longer with MS, yet many live with persistent uncertainty that strains mental health.

Today marks eleven years since my MS diagnosis.
It has been a journey filled with lessons, struggles, and unexpected blessings. From Courtney’s grace in being the first to know, to the wisdom of “maybe,” to showing my kids that probability is not destiny, MS has sharpened my priorities and deepened our family’s commitment to Mostest.
I would not have chosen this path, but I am not certain I would undo it either.

Not all relationships are created equal. Some are walk-level. Others are worth a flight.
A framework I learned decades ago that still shapes how I invest my time, energy, and heart.
Walk, bike, car, or plane?

Conflict avoidance does not exist... at least not in the way many people go about it. It is actually conflict ignorance. It destroys rather than preserves relationships.

Sharing painful experiences is not easy—but it can be incredibly powerful. I used to be a micromanager, but a horrible event forced me to change. Painful then but grateful now even for everyone involved.

A mentor once told me, "You can either be the imperfect hero or the editor of our story." He was referring to when we tell our kids the stories of our lives.
I now see being imperfect as a gift to my kids, especially as they are all adults. Perfection is impossible, and I do not want to set them up for failure.

I often chat with teams & groups about productive friction - and how it is essential to achieve incredibly difficult goals and overcome challenges. It is about setting people up to shine.

I love problems. I always have loved problems. It's probably why I loved coding... and it was an inevitable path to leadership and building an organization. Leaders should fall in love with problems (or find someone else to lead).

I have been asked why I started blogging again and more regularly. It is due to the evolving parent-child relationship as we have become empty nesters.
For me, each parenting stage is likened to a driving metaphor, highlighting a shift from control to independence as children grow. Blogging serves as a legacy, allowing me to share insights with my adult children while also learning from them.

Today is the tenth anniversary of my multiple sclerosis diagnosis. I reflect on the journey and lessons learned over the decade. Gratitude for stability, the value of time, and the power of community emerge as key themes. Emphasizing growth, resilience, and the importance of asking for help.

Years ago, strategic planning was crucial for my business, but I neglected it for my family. A wake-up call from my mentor led Courtney and me to develop our family's Mission and Core Values. Drawing from business experience, we reverse engineered our Mission and identified seven core values, ultimately transforming our family.

Odd ChatGPT experience getting it to parse a document. Multiple attempts w/different and corrective prompts. Kept receiving partial answers until I wrote, “https://t.co/aTqJPGcceb did this in one try. ChatGPT needs to get better.”
Full, complete output received.
I recently handed my youngest kid 3 notebooks on his 18th birthday. I had done something similar with for his siblings’ 18th birthday. Courtney received her on Christmas 2017. Inside each was a daily entry - what I love, cherish, and adore about them.

It was a long road to get here - both not being a micromanager and publishing this post. Both were held back by fear.
You Aren't Micro Managing. You Are Probably Bullying.

Ever spent what felt like an eternity in a doctor's waiting room? In 2022, 97% of patients experienced average wait times exceeding 25 min, revealing a systemic issue that transcends mere inconvenience. Behind these delays lies a stark ethical paradox that challenges the very principles healthcare professionals vow to uphold.
