@stevenhagen3@GamerEMDoc We're not always doing it for attention. Sometimes we're just stopping after work to get something we need. Not always feasible to go home and change first.
@JAFERDIAN@Zoe_Beausoleil This 100%. More than once I've initiated treatment because I looked at the CT/XR/US. I recently had a pt accepted in transfer and helicopter in route to transfer a stroke before rads had even started to look at the films. Not the first time.
@Saved4Eternity@Holly42428391@drkellyscriven Abortion is still the medical term for early pregnancy loss, no matter if it is spontaneous or induced. Spontaneous, complete, incomplete, missed: all still abortions. Facts don't care about your opinions or what makes you feel good, they often make you feel uncomfortable.
@Saved4Eternity@Holly42428391@drkellyscriven OMG thank you so much for clarifying for me something I have used on a near daily basis for 12 years. To think I must have been getting my obstetrical history taking incorrect all this time. To think I've been using GTPAL all this time.
1000000% true. My partners and I do this all the time. It's always OK to ask for help/advice/guidance, it's never ok to be too proud to ask for help. Medicine is a team sport.
A note to new residency grads:
You can’t know everything.
I sit in an office with 8 other attendings & we ask each other’s advice & opinions.
Even the 15-year seasoned attendings.
@julie74439076 @BrendaMorTown @donna_skelton @redsister9 @lexinatrix @nicole82669131 @micheledavis315 @Holly42428391@drkellyscriven I mean except when you are taking an obstetrical history. G(#of pregnancies) T(term delivery) P(preterm) A(abortions-ectopic is counted here) L(live children).
@donna_skelton @nicole82669131 @redsister9 @lexinatrix@julie74439076 @micheledavis315 @Holly42428391@drkellyscriven Taking care of women who are experiencing pregnancy loss, no matter the gestational age, is one of the hardest things about working ER. The nurses that took care of my friend when her son was stillborn were much appreciated.
@nicole82669131 @donna_skelton @redsister9 @lexinatrix@julie74439076 @micheledavis315 @Holly42428391@drkellyscriven Then maybe they shouldn't be interfering in things they don't understand. I'm not telling architects how to design buildings or my HVAC guy how to fix my heating system, legislators shouldn't be telling me how to do my job.
@nicole82669131 @donna_skelton @redsister9 @lexinatrix@julie74439076 @micheledavis315 @Holly42428391@drkellyscriven My point is you have people making these bills that do not understand basic medical definitions. If they don't understand the terminology how can they legislate about it. It wasn't meant to attack you, it was to point out that they are trying to regulate without understanding.
@nicole82669131 @donna_skelton @redsister9 @lexinatrix@julie74439076 @micheledavis315 @Holly42428391@drkellyscriven Sometimes spontaneous abortions and ectopics can be treated medically with cytotec (misoprostol), mifepristone for incomplete spontaneous abortions and methotrexate for ectopics.
@nicole82669131 @donna_skelton @redsister9 @lexinatrix@julie74439076 @micheledavis315 @Holly42428391@drkellyscriven D&C, D&E, vacuum aspiration, salpingectomy, oopherectomy, salpingostomy are the surgical procedures for treatment of some spontaneous abortions (first 3) and ectopic (last 3).
@nicole82669131 @donna_skelton @redsister9 @lexinatrix@julie74439076 @micheledavis315 @Holly42428391@drkellyscriven Let's be clear: what pro-birthers are against is terminating a pregnancy. Whether that is medical or surgical. There have been people saying that an ectopic can be re-implanted in the uterus and then carried to term. Abortion is a diagnosis, ectopic is a diagnosis.
@donna_skelton @nicole82669131 @redsister9 @lexinatrix@julie74439076 @micheledavis315 @Holly42428391@drkellyscriven You realize I'm an ED doctor who is well versed in the management of ectopics and the multiple types of abortions right? Like I've assisted in these procedures when I was a student and resident.
@donna_skelton @nicole82669131 @redsister9 @lexinatrix@julie74439076 @micheledavis315 @Holly42428391@drkellyscriven You are confusing diagnostic codes (ICD) with procedural codes (CPT). Abortion is a diagnosis not a specific procedure. They use more than one type of procedure to terminate a pregnancy including vacuum aspiration and D&E.
@nicole82669131 @donna_skelton @redsister9 @lexinatrix@julie74439076 @micheledavis315 @Holly42428391@drkellyscriven I get what you are saying and understand where you are coming from. If there is this much confusion from the general public about basic medical terminology maybe they should leave management of it between a pregnant person and their doctor.
