💔 Today, we mourn the loss of Rebecca Cheptegei, a trailblazing Ugandan Olympic athlete, whose life was tragically cut short by an act of domestic violence.

At just 33, Rebecca's incredible journey was devastatingly ended after she succumbed to severe burns inflicted by a former partner, who allegedly doused her with petrol and set her on fire.

Her story echoes the tragic fate of other sportswomen like Agnes Jebet Tirop, who also fell victim to intimate partner violence.

It is also a stark reminder that we must continue to confront violence against women.

Let's honor Rebecca's legacy by advocating for stronger protections for women and girls from all forms of abuse because everyone deserves a life free from violence.

Our hearts go out to Rebecca’s family, the Uganda Athletics Federation (@UgaAthletics2), and all who knew and admired her. May her memory inspire us to fight for a safer, more equitable world.

Female lawyers, policymakers, as well as women and human rights network organisations from the Greater Horn of Africa have been brought together to discuss strategies, share ideas, and set the stage for transformative change.

I visited the @Sihanet booth at the @WomenDeliver conf. I learned about sexual violence in conflict, & how majority of women & girls bear the burden of blame yet the rapists are excused. To achieve gender equality we must penalize such perpetrators.
