The main issue with Chelsea is their recruitment. They are constantly refreshing the project with raw talent buys (? to flip for profit later) instead of building the squad progressively by A) filling squad holes or B) buying game-changing talents. Guehi and Osimhen window last summer as an example moves mountains in two big squad holes as two game-changers. They instead opted for Gittens, Garnacho & Delap - 2 LWs when the wings were well stocked and an average ceiling, raw striker. There was no progression from letting Jackson, Sancho & Madueke leave to that window. Any coach’s hands would be tied with this squad not just Maresca’s.

I played for a club where a manager went mad after games if we felt a decision had gone against us. You feel like it’s us against the world . I get it. Everyone hates us, the refs are out to stitch us up and theirs bias v us. However I can never remember the club writing letters undermining the system and the whole refereeing community.

When I look back now I don’t think as players we always covered ourselves in glory with refs and also at a big club we all feel entitled and you have to leave and retire to be able to see that.

Arsenal’s letter and even the Liverpool statement a few weeks ago ( they had a genuine bad one v them ) are wrong. Do it privately . If I was Howard Webb I would stop apologising to them and get on with it. Managers and players make far more mistakes than refs!

so here’s mine!
He was the best player in the Premier League for 4 years. Won PFA young player, PFA player & FWP of the year awards. He won every trophy at Chelsea except the CL.
He was in my eyes the best performer at the 2018 World cup when Belgium finished third.
An all time @premierleague great no doubt & would be in a lot of all time 11’s!
In the past that alone would be enough to be lauded unquestionably but in this day & age people are still not happy with that, as he didn’t win a World Cup or do the business at Madrid 🤷‍♂️
