Serious questions remain about the recent killings in Oromia. While church sources and some media reports have cited a much higher number of victims, the official statement reported a far lower figure.

Teddy Afro's Private Studio Raided by Armed Men in Federal Police Uniforms: Confiscated Equipment Puts the Artist's Intellectual Property at Risk
The ongoing pressure and harassment directed at the legendary Ethiopian singer Tewodros Kassahun, widely known as Teddy Afro, have escalated to a dangerously unlawful level. Eyewitnesses and close sources have confirmed that armed individuals wearing Federal Police uniforms and driving Federal Police vehicles forcibly broke into the singer's private studio and office located in the CMC area.
A Nighttime Raid and Assault
This illegal and forceful intrusion reportedly occurred yesterday, around 9:00 PM local time. Reports indicate that the armed men severely beat the building's security guard to force their way into the premises. By completely bypassing standard legal procedures and the requirement for a court-issued search warrant, this violent nighttime raid on a private citizen's workspace has raised serious alarms regarding the integrity of the country's justice system and the overall safety of its citizens.
Severe Threat to Unreleased Intellectual Property
Beyond the physical violence and property damage, the most critical aspect of this incident lies in the contents of the studio and the specific items taken. This space serves as Teddy Afro's primary office and highly confidential creative sanctuary where he produces his work, stores unreleased music and lyrics, and archives his new concepts. The studio houses numerous highly valuable intellectual properties. According to newly confirmed information, the intruders confiscated two laptops, speakers, music production equipment, and various other studio accessories. Because these seized laptops and production tools contain the artist's unreleased works and private creative files, the threat posed to his intellectual property is now of grave concern.
Targeted Intimidation Campaign
Legal experts and arts commentators are refusing to treat this incident as a routine robbery or standard police search. Following the recent arrest of Teddy Afro's deputy manager and close friend, Mr. Yusuf Yassin, who remains detained without any formal charges, this attack on the heart of the artist's creative space is being strongly condemned. Analysts describe it as a systematic, deliberate campaign of intimidation aimed at obstructing his artistic output, seizing his unreleased projects, and inflicting severe psychological pressure on the singer. Public demands are rapidly mounting for the government and relevant Federal Police officials to provide an immediate and transparent explanation regarding this violent act committed under the guise of law enforcement and the severe endangerment of the beloved artist's intellectual property.
A troubling escalation in the harassment of singer Teddy Afro. Eyewitnesses and close sources claim that around 9 PM, group of armed Ethiopian federal policemen arrived in a patrol vehicle and forcibly entered his private studio and office in the CMC area.
The officers severely beat the security guard of the building to break into the studio, bypassing legal procedures and any court authorization. This incident raises serious concerns about violations of due process, respect for private property, and the broader safety and rights of citizens.
The Ethiopian Media Authority has declined to renew the accreditation for three Addis Ababa-based journalists from Reuters, the news agency said. https://t.co/yKR6SHimuf
Since the conflict began in Amhara region of #Ethiopia, there are disturbing reports of health workers being targeted - detained, beaten, and killed. On Feb 4, Dr. Tsegahun Sime was reportedly taken by security forces in Bahir Dar and later found dead. Hospitals have been damaged in the fighting, and aid workers have lost their lives. With internet blackouts limiting information, these incidents need urgent independent investigation. Health facilities and health workers are not a target.

H.E. João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço President of the Republic of Angola Chairperson of the African Union H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf Chairperson of the African Union Commission African Union Headquarters Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Re: Urgent Appeal Regarding the Genocidal War in Amhara and the Threat to Regional Stability Your Excellencies, We write to draw Your Excellencies’ urgent attention to the grave and deteriorating situation in Ethiopia, specifically the ongoing war against the Amhara people and its serious implications for regional stability. The war waged by the Ethiopian government against the Amhara people, which began in 2023, is now approaching its third year and continues to be marked by severe violations of international humanitarian law and African human rights instruments by government forces. After exhausting all peaceful avenues to have our legitimate concerns addressed, the Amhara people, under the leadership of the Amhara Fano, have been compelled to defend themselves against what they view as a repressive administration. While we continue to express a preference for a peaceful and negotiated resolution, the government’s response has been characterized by indiscriminate killings, aerial bombardments, and widespread terror against civilian populations. The situation in the Amhara region has resulted in a severe humanitarian crisis, including civilian casualties, large-scale displacement, food insecurity, the breakdown of health and education services, and the erosion of social cohesion. Recent escalations under the administration of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed have reportedly involved actions that constitute grave breaches of international law, including allegations of sexual violence and gang rape used as instruments of war. Reports indicate that, within close proximity to the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, government forces killed more than 100 civilians in a single incident. Women and children have been disproportionately affected by these military operations. The current leadership has, in our view, failed to manage the internal crisis effectively. While high-profile development initiatives are promoted in Addis Ababa, many regions of the country, particularly Amhara, face destruction rather than development. As a result, public trust has significantly eroded, and the government’s effective control over parts of the country has reportedly diminished. Beyond the internal crisis, the government’s external posture has raised additional concerns. Efforts to project domestic instability outward through assertive or provocative foreign policy actions risk destabilizing the Horn of Africa. Tensions involving neighbouring countries, including Eritrea and Somalia, have heightened regional anxieties at a time when cooperative security approaches are most needed.
Furthermore, developments related to the crisis in Sudan have intensified fears of broader regional spill over. While the Amhara Fano maintains that it seeks to prevent any expansion of the conflict beyond Ethiopia’s borders, the continuation of the current strategy of military escalation renders regional stability increasingly fragile. Your Excellencies, Given the escalation of hostilities and the deepening humanitarian catastrophe, we respectfully submit that the situation in Amhara warrants urgent consideration at the forthcoming African Union Summit. Such action would be consistent with the AU’s foundational mandate to promote peace, security, stability, and respect for human rights across the continent. We are concerned that recent engagements with individuals not reflective of the current realities on the ground risk mischaracterizing the situation and may unintentionally undermine efforts toward accountability and peace.
