"We were able to collectively raise awareness with her case and bring it to the attention of lawmakers," Meshell said. Thanks to @freeheartsorg@SenEdJackson @alexechambers @lovejusticeproj
A jury sentenced Dodd to life behind bars 20 years ago for conspiring in the murder of her husband, Henry Dodd, who was also her stepfather. The jury reached that conclusion even though it was Henry's nephew who shot him.

Right On Crime applauds the bipartisan passage of the Oklahoma Survivors’ Act which would give courts the ability to impose lower sentences on survivors of domestic violence whose victimization was a significant factor in their underlying offense. @marilyndavidson

I honestly can't believe there is a court in America that allows for inadmissible drug tests to be used as the basis for taking and keeping children. #DisruptManchester
Very grateful for the senators who made time to meet with women serving life sentences in Nashville. The ladies courageously shared their stories of injustice & experiences w/the system. The legislators were so engaged & moved by their stories. We need more of this! @MindyDodd2

This. I have a client who should have been released in Aug. but due to time miscalculation & multiple admin errors is still incarcerated. He missed Thanksgiving with his family. I don't know if it's bureaucratic indifference or incompetence (probably both) but I agree it's cruel.
One of the cruelest things about our criminal justice system is the bureaucratic indifference. One tiny piece of neglect or laziness by a gov't actor can absolutely F somebody's life.
