Her Excellency @ABaerbock
The Honorable Foreign Minister of Germany
Dear Foreign Minister,
We are writing to bring to your attention a pressing issue that is affecting many Nigerian students and families seeking visas for study and family reunification in Germany. There have been alarming delays in visa appointments at the German Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria @GERinNigeria , particularly for Student and Family Reunion visas.
Many qualified students who have met all the requirements and are eager to pursue their studies in Germany are facing significant delays of up to 18 months, and in some cases, even up to 2 years. As a result, these students are unable to meet their admission deadlines, which not only jeopardizes their academic prospects but also causes undue stress and uncertainty.
Furthermore, spouses of skilled migrants currently residing in Germany are being forced to live separately from their loved ones for extended periods of time due to these visa appointment delays. These are spouses of professionals who meet all the requirements, including earning a good salary, yet they are subjected to lengthy waits of up to 2 years to join their families in Germany. This policy is not only causing immense emotional distress but also dividing families and undermining the well-being of Nigerian skilled migrants living in Germany.
Despite numerous attempts to address this issue with the German Embassy in Lagos, there has been no response or resolution. This lack of communication and action is deeply concerning and unacceptable.
We kindly urge you to intervene and address this urgent issue as soon as possible. The prolonged delays in visa appointments are not only detrimental to individuals and families but also tarnishing Germany's reputation as a destination for education and study. As a community, we have always endeavored to promote Germany as an attractive destination for academic and work pursuits, and it is disheartening to see these efforts undermined by bureaucratic inefficiencies.
We appreciate your attention to this matter and your ongoing support in all endeavors. We hope for a swift resolution to the visa appointment delays at the German Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria, ensuring that Nigerian students and families can pursue their aspirations in Germany without unnecessary obstacles.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this urgent matter.
Sincerely,
Nigerians in Germany Community
