The secret bosses reflect this theme in different ways and it’s my theory that Shaum will use the dark shards (glass crystals) to help the kris make a new prophecy ending (the prophecies are glass)

Perhaps there are other factors which cause decline in both areas (like old age).
Do people who are hard of hearing get dementia more often/earlier?
