Gap fills happen because of liquidity draws between key levels of supply and demand. In a downtrend, stocks can “gap up” as it approaches demand zones (oversold levels) and hitting resistance before continuing lower. In an uptrend, stocks can “gap down” as it approaches supply zones (overbought levels) and hitting support before bouncing higher.
