Fakta yg jarang dibahas di pekerjaan itu... nggak semua atasan nyaman punya bawahan yg terlalu capable. 🫣

Di awal, si bawahan memang terlihat ok. Kan bisa kerja cepat, hasil rapi, jarang perlu juga diawasi. Eh, pelan-pelan, berbeda..

Ketika si bawahan mulai paham gambaran besar, berani kasih masukan, atau bahkan bisa menjelaskan ulang keputusan atasan dgn lebih rapi, mulai...

Kadang ya, masalahnya ada di bagian ego dan posisi. Begini, ada atasan yg sebenarnya naik jabatan itu nggak melulu soal jago, bisa saja dia paling lama, paling loyal, atau sekadar “sudah waktunya”.

Nah, ketika muncul bawahan yg secara kapasitas terlihat lebih siap, atasan seperti ini sering merasa posisinya terancam (walau tidak pernah diucapkan terang-terangan ya).

Responsnya jarang frontal. Biasanya juga justru halus, semacam kontribusi bawahan dianggap “sekadar menjalankan tugas”, ide bagus dipakai, tetapi nama si bawahan selalu diblurkan, exposure dipersempit, akses ke meeting penting dibatasi, feedback selalu digantung, dll. ya, hehe.

Bawahan yg capable ini bisa juga nanti terjebak di posisi aneh; dia terlalu penting utk dilepas, tetapi terlalu berbahaya utk dinaikkan.

Satu hal lagi, si bawahan ini kerjanya makin berat, tetapi ruang bertumbuhnya makin sempit. Yg lebih menyakitkan, banyak yg menyalahkan diri sendiri.

Menurut keyakinan saya, bahkan pasangan yang belum menikah harusnya ada di nomor 4.

1. Diri sendiri: merawat diri sendiri, makan bergizi, olahraga
2. Ambisi: kejar mimpi, belajar, bangun side hustle
3. Keluarga: urus orang tua, fam time.
4. Pasangan: Disini, karena belum sah.

Kalau udah sah bisa naik ke nomor 3, keluarga jadi nomor 4. Terutama laki-laki, beri porsi yang adil untuk istri dan orang tua, jangan berat sebelah.

Van Gogh died broke because nobody wanted his paintings. He sold maybe one during his entire life. The art world thought his style was too immature. His brother Theo, an art dealer, kept him alive by sending money constantly.

When Van Gogh passed in 1890, his brother, Theo died just six months later. That left Theo's wife Jo as a 28 year old widow with a baby and about 900 paintings nobody wanted, plus hundreds of letters.

Here's what actually mattered. Van Gogh had written hundred of letters letters to Theo and Jo explaining individual paintings and his life as an artist. He told them the stories behind each work, what he was trying to express, what each one meant to him.

After both brothers died, Jo remembered these letters and published them.

That's what made him famous. People could read Van Gogh's own words about each painting. The works stopped being random art and became stories he had experienced. The paintings got context directly from him explaining what he was doing. Jo gave the world Van Gogh's voice attached to his work.

By the time she died in 1925, he had gone from total unknown to art historical icon.
