Comrade Shehu Sani, there is an important part missing from this comparison. CNN, MS NOW and Politico did not simply accept Trump’s decision “with ease” — the decision has already been condemned as an attack on press freedom and is facing potential legal challenge.

Perhaps we should apply the same scrutiny at home.

You represented Kaduna Central in the Senate from 2015–2019, during years when Nigeria was already battling corruption, insecurity, killings, kidnappings and poverty. Your own public record from that period should therefore be part of the conversation too.

And after leaving the Senate, you were arraigned by the EFCC over an alleged $25,000 extortion/influence-peddling case — allegations you denied and which, importantly, have not resulted in a conviction and remain unresolved.

Today, millions of Nigerians are struggling with poverty, insecurity, kidnappings, killings and corruption. Those are issues deserving at least the same energy devoted to analysing what Trump is doing thousands of miles away.

America will debate Trump. Nigerians should also be entitled to ask their former and aspiring lawmakers: when you had the mandate, what concrete difference did you make at home?

@ShehuSani Comrade Shehu Sani, Trump and CNN are America’s problem. Nigeria has more urgent battles: widespread poverty, killings and kidnappings, a crushing cost of living and entrenched corruption. Your voice would serve Nigerians better by demanding answers and solutions at home.
