Brilliant talk on the “weak link” theory of AI and economic growth:

- Economic growth is bottlenecked by "weak links," which are the tasks that haven't been automated yet.

- We have to systematically automate all weak links across the physical and cognitive economy to fully uncap growth, the AI-driven economic explosion will likely take decades to materialize, rather than just a few years.

- Since weak links are the source of scarcity, the remaining human bottlenecks may become more valuable. Workers who effectively use AI could see rising leverage and demand.

I think that as AI makes research capabilities — especially in software — abundant, the new weak link in science may become human taste in research, prioritization, and knowing which questions are worth asking.
