Inclusive diplomacy is essential.
On #DiplomacyDay2026, we joined @ForeignOfficeKE, @SingoeiAKorir + key stakeholders to mark Women in Diplomacy Week.
The future of diplomacy must be inclusive, with women at the decision-making table and equally represented.
#WomenInLeadership
Today, we celebrate the International Day of Women in Diplomacy and, I had the privilege of delivering the opening remarks at the Women in Diplomacy Forum at the Foreign Service Academy, where we reflected on the critical role women play in shaping diplomacy, sustainable development, and global governance.
Women continue to make invaluable contributions to advancing human rights, peace and security, climate action, and economic development. Their leadership, expertise, and perspectives are indispensable to addressing the complex challenges facing our world today.
At the Forum, I was most pleased to engage with Ms. Antonio N'Gabala-Sodonon, Country Representative @unwomenkenya, and commend the important work that they continue to undertake in Kenya.
I wish to extend my appreciation to @KAS_Kenya for its continued partnership and support in advancing women's leadership in diplomacy through this program.
I look forward to the outcomes of this initiative and to seeing even more women at the forefront of shaping national, regional, and global agendas for generations to come. @ForeignOfficeKE

The Women in Diplomacy Leadership Programme 2026 has commenced in Nairobi, bringing together women diplomats from Kenya’s Foreign Service for a three-day capacity-building initiative aimed at enhancing leadership, negotiation, communication, and policy influence skills.
The programme was officially launched by H.E. Gisele Fernández Ludlow, Ambassador of Mexico to Kenya; Dr. Ismael Shaiye, Director of the Office of Strategic Partnerships and Donor Relations; Ms. Carolina Unger, Deputy Director of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Kenya Office; and the Acting Director of the Foreign Service Academy, Ambassador Wamoto.
The initiative seeks to strengthen the technical, strategic, and leadership capabilities of women diplomats through expert-led sessions, mentorship engagements, and intergenerational dialogues. It provides a platform for participants to exchange experiences, build networks, and deepen their capacity to contribute effectively to Kenya’s foreign policy objectives.
Over the course of the programme, participants will engage on key thematic areas including gender-responsive diplomacy, peace and security, climate change, strategic communication, and women’s leadership in decision-making. The training underscores the importance of empowering women diplomats to take on greater leadership roles and contribute to a more inclusive and effective diplomatic service.

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) wears many faces, and not all wounds are visible.
Physical. Sexual. Emotional. Economic. Cultural. Digital.
GBV shows up in every corner of life, affecting millions of women and girls in homes, workplaces, communities, and online spaces. Recognising its many forms is where change begins. Because you cannot fight what you cannot name.
💜 No form of violence is acceptable.
🗣️ If you see it, say something.
🤝 Believe and support survivors.
✊ Be part of the solution.
Together, we build a world where every woman and girl lives free, from violence, from fear, from silence.

Painful periods are not normal.
Endometriosis remains one of the most misunderstood, underdiagnosed, misdiagnosed and often dismissed conditions affecting women today. I’ll be speaking with Dr. Njagi for The Power Dialogue Africa Podcast. What would you like me to ask him?
Wangari Maathai was a Nobel Prize laureate of many firsts: the first woman in East and Central Africa to earn a doctorate degree, the first female professor in Kenya and the first African woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Congratulations to @KWALOFFICIAL and MD Lina Githuka on the launch of the Feminine Leave Policy, which introduces 1 day paid leave per month for women experiencing menstrual, perimenopausal and menopausal health-related challenges. A progressive move that places dignity, health and wellbeing at the center of workplace culture. Well done.👏 #WorkplaceWellbeing #FeminineLeave

Did you know that Nairobi County Government moved first on menstrual leave in Kenya? KWAL has followed with one paid leave day each month for menstrual health, perimenopause and menopause support. A small policy shift, but a significant workplace conversation.
