@ScheuingMeghan Downplaying COVID-19's severity is one of the reasons why lockdown lasted so long. Many were misinformed at the large impact the virus had on several communities. This hashtag call for social justice in this situation. It calls out those in power, supposedly representing us
@gellllllloo Especially in this new era of digital communication, spreading awareness of what is fake news or false information is especially critical. With this hashtag the spread of false information can be halted instead of allowing it to run rampant. People can dismiss falsehoods.
Like Palihapitiya argues, social media uses bright red notifications and "likes" to capture attention and engagement with the app. It is an attention we, as consumers, give because of the "dopamine hit". It is the persuading factor that keeps us interested and going back. (2/2)
#attentioneconomy is a hashtag representative of the value "attention" has been given in this new digital age. For companies like Facebook and Instagram, attention is what they thrive on. A currency that gives opportunity to data monitor and collect. (1/2)

@gellllllloo It's great to see that #girlgamer is a direct response to the assumption that all gamers are male. It gives the opportunity to girl gamers to see that there is a community for them and that there will always be one despite misconceived notions that they do not belong.
@ScheuingMeghan#GamingForAll is a great hashtag for gamers who want and know the gamer community to be an inclusive group. They recognize everyone can be apart of the community and do not uphold standards that do not allow others to join.
#Gamergate is hypocrisy in the gamer world from toxic masculinity. It outlined the gender practice of the problem of patriarchy; men are dominant, women are subordinate. The games should be taken seriously, but when issues are raised over depictions, they get extremely upset.
A memory from 2014. I *think* this was while I was writing my undergrad dissertation, but it may have been from my videogames Research Masters.
#GamerGate really was something.
@marygracechris4 This hashtag allows women to share their physical, mental, and sexual abuse and find a community through these experiences. Women are a marginalized community in the fact that are constantly exploited to be valued as less than in a patriarchal society.
@ScheuingMeghan I also used this hashtag as an example. It's especially popular with Halloween around the corner, because many fail to recognize a culture is not a costume. They are erasing years of tradition when they seemingly mock it with cheap headdresses and present stereotyped phrases.
A marginalized community I want to focus on is Native Americans/Indigenous. With Halloween approaching this - #notyourcostume , is a reminder that they are not a costume, they are not a festival headdress. They are people who deserve respect and equality. #Virtual90#RutgersDCIM
@SzetoYung An environment is created people feel free to be themselves, knowing others feel the same as they do. They can share information across the platform and connect with people all over the world. The community can be so big without ever having to leave your room.
@MortelliteBella I think the community that can be formed from these hashtags is so welcoming. To have conversations with people just as interested as you about a topic, team, advocate stance, etc. can encourage people to be themselves. It invites more knowledge to be spread as people share info.
#CowboyBebop creates a networked public; a social and cultural gathering of fans from around the world. Cowboy Bebop is beloved by many and, with a live adaptation releasing, the hashtag allows its fans to connect and share their opinions/excitement #Virtual90#RutgersDCIM
@gellllllloo I searched through #Tinder and found many stories of people meeting, but it leading to very weird and aggressive connections. It is important to note that the app can bring both good and bad in meeting online.
@KATHRYNHAAS5 It's so nice to see that Tinder can also lead many to make genuine relationships and connect people who want to be together. I chose to look at #Tinder and found more "horror" stories than good. I am glad that this hashtag also exists to show that Tinder is not always the worst.
#Virtual90#RutgersDCIM#Tinder This tweet shows a failure to self brand correctly. This male decides to declare the competencies he requires. However the way he does so is unsuccessful and creates a disdain towards him. His self-branding will cause a lack of matches.
#Virtual90#RutgersDCIM#MeToo transcends into the pop culture space. In the music industry, women are using the hashtag's platform to address the harassment they, too, have experienced on a music video set. The community behind the hashtag makes them feel safe to speak out.
Hi! My name is Michaela and a hashtag that I am interested in learning more about is #MyBodyMyChoice Following what has happened in Texas I feel that this is a hashtag worth following #Virtual90#RutgersDCIM
