Before scaling laws people would see a hard problem and be like "sure that could require a computer the size of a galaxy, ... on second thought maybe we'll solve it this year?"
Can't tell if sarcastic, but Go was a canonical example of the sort of thing that computers were very bad at pre deep learning! Need some element of intuition rather than brute force computation.
If Go is "just math" then many many other skills are also "just math."
@mattparlmer I worry about this but more because it means the benefits of growth will be unevenly distributed no matter what. Only the politically well connected or well placed will receive the dividends
