It makes no sense to claim Jesus as our satisfying sacrifice for sins & then believe in an angry God, a God who still has punishment in store for us as recompense for our sins. No, instead of being “sinners in the hands of an angry God,” we are saints in the arms of a loving God.
Religion tells us that we’re at the heart of the equation. We must “do.” And we’re never done until we hit heaven & find out if it was enough. In contrast, the new covenant is all about what Jesus has done to provide an unbreakable connection with God & guaranteed growth in Him.
You simply cannot relax with God if you think He might be the evil author of your painful circumstances. He is not the author of your pain. He is your great Comforter in the midst of it all. He is the author and perfecter of your faith, not your trouble (Heb. 12:2)!
Evil never gives peace. It causes frenzy first then leaves bitterness. Instead, God’s voice never promises cheap, easily acquired joy. He invites us to go beyond our ego to find that true good: peace.
