Growing Threats: Another Overlooked Terrorist Group Gains Strength in Kaduna State, Nigeria

As focus shifts to a seasoned yet revived terrorist group address as Les recruteurs (French for “The Recruiters”), recently rebranded as LUKURAWA in the local Hausa dialect, concerns are rising across communities in Sokoto and Kebbi States. This group’s long-standing presence, now refocused with renewed fervor, is rekindling fears in the region.

However, attention must also turn to another group operating with a similar ideology and approach, which has quietly sustained activities for over six years around Kuyello and Kwasa-Kwasa in Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna State. These groups, while distinct, pose a unified threat as they continue to entrench themselves, capitalizing on limited oversight and increasing vulnerabilities in local communities.

Neglecting these insurgent threats risks leaving communities even more exposed, and delaying action may allow these groups to fortify their positions, making future interventions more difficult. Without coordinated responses, the impact of these overlooked factions could severely destabilize the region, presenting long-term security challenges for the affected states.

In a notable reversal of previous trends, PhantomEye’s investigations have revealed a significant shift in the rice trade between Nigeria and Niger. While in years past, rice smuggling or importation primarily flowed from Niger to Nigeria, the tables have now turned.

Currently, there is a consistent pattern of rice export or smuggling from Nigeria to Niger. This shift is attributed to a substantial increase in the cost of rice in Niger, which now stands at double the current price in Nigeria.

Last night, I left from pulling two 14 hour shifts. Stopped by the grocery store to grab food for dinner and as I was checking out a woman started crying in the next checkout line. Her daughter asked her what's wrong and she said we can't afford to eat tonight. A person behind her gave her a couple dollars and she bought her daughter a Kids Cuisine tv dinner. I told her to grab what she wants, ill pay for it. I NEVER stop at this Wal-Mart. I'm simply saying GOD puts you where he needs you to be WHEN he needs you to be there.

Borno Govt. Lauds Security Agencies on Crack down against notorious "Marlian Gangs" in Maiduguri

The Borno Government has lauded security agencies in the state over the crackdown on the notorious “Marlian” gang group who have been terrorising residents of Maiduguri and its environs.

The state Deputy Governor, Umar Kadafur, gave the commendation on Wednesday while briefing newsmen after a security meeting.

“There have been is a lot of patrols and crackdowns on activities of criminals and other anti-social vices in the state.

“Security agencies have given their commitment to continue to secure the state,” Mr Kadafur said.

He noted that the meeting discussed incidents of attacks on farmers and how to mobilise security for maximum results.

The deputy governor also said that palliatives have been put in place to cushion the hardship residents are experiencing.

He said that about 300,000 households made up of about 1.5 million people will benefit under the first phase of palliative measures.

Mr Kadafur called for the support of residents for security agencies.

Perilous Menace of Terrorist Activities in Gubio, Nganzai, and Magumeri in Borno State

The communities of Gubio, Nganzai, and Magumeri are facing an alarming threat from multiple terrorist and criminal groups, causing grave concern for the safety and security of the residents. Among these groups are #ISWAP, #JAS, Fulani Armed Robbers, Kidnappers, and Cattle Rustlers.

ISWAP (Islamic State West Africa Province)
ISWAP, operating mainly from Gudumbali, Zari, and Abadam axis, frequently patrols these communities, enforcing taxation and holding court sessions. Their main focus is levying taxes on animals, but they also seek to conscript male youths for their cause. ISWAP keeps a vigilant eye on the activities of JAS (Boko Haram) to prevent them from operating in the region.

JAS (Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad - Boko Haram)
JAS poses a continuous threat in the area, traversing from Kareto, Geidam, Magumeri, and Nganzai, with their major route from the Marte/Mafa axis. They are notorious for ruthless activities, such as animal rustling, thefts, and killings. They are cautious to avoid confrontations with ISWAP, as the latter is better armed. JAS operates primarily on motorcycles, with fewer vehicles.
