тАЬSome stories should not be scrolled past. This is one of them.
Col Anurag Upadhyay scored in the 99th percentile in CAT. He could have chosen a corporate career. He chose the Indian Army instead.
He volunteered for the Special Forces, completed probation with 3 PARA (SF), and joined the raising team of 12 PARA (SF). Even after a heart attack in 2008, he returned to active duty.
In August 2025, he suffered a severe posterior circulation stroke. Today, he has Locked-in Syndrome. His body has been severely affected. His mind has not.
He is conscious and aware. He remembers. He thinks. Through eye movements and alphabet-based scanning, he communicates his thoughts. Further complications resulted in bilateral below-knee amputations.
This post is not asking for sympathy. It is asking for possibility.
His family knows what the medical literature says. They are not asking for promises. They believe no credible possibility should remain unexplored because the right expert was outside their network.
They seek connections to:
тАв Neurologists and neuro-rehabilitation specialists experienced in Locked-in Syndrome
тАв Rehabilitation centres focused on neurological recovery
тАв Researchers exploring recovery of movement, speech or other functions
тАв Research and emerging technologies, including brain-computer interfaces
тАв Eye-tracking and assistive technology that could give Anurag a more independent voice
тАв Veteran organisations or individuals who can open the right doors
Someone reading this may know a doctor who has treated a similar patient, a rehabilitation team that has seen a different outcome, a relevant researcherтАФor someone who can make the right introduction.
His prognosis should be determined by medicine and how his body respondsтАФnot by a lack of information, access or connections.
Please make a connection if you can. DM тАЬTales Of A GypsyтАЭ on Instagram. If you cannot, share this until it reaches someone who can.
No sympathy. Just one question: What more is possible for Col Anurag ?
Let us help him find outтАЭ

Shakti is core. Meat is not.
The core of Shaktism is Devi as Shakti. Meat or pashu bali is part of the ritual practice of particular traditions, not the defining principle of Shakta Dharma.
In Shakta practice, offerings depend upon adhikara, achara, sampradaya, deshachara and the particular form of Devi being worshipped.
Some traditions prescribe meat and pashu bali. Others prescribe niramisha or sattvika offerings.
Even bali can take different forms, including animal sacrifice as well as substitutes such as kushmanda (pumpkin), coconut or other prescribed offerings.
This distinction is visible within Devi worship itself. The rituals associated with Kali or certain forms of Chandika need not be the same as that followed for Lakshmi, Saraswati, Annapurna or other manifestations of Shakti.
So yes, meat and pashu bali have genuine scriptural and historical places within particular Shakta traditions. Denying that would be equally wrong.
But going from тАЬsome Shakta traditions prescribe meatтАЭ to тАЬmeat is core to Shakta HinduismтАЭ is a gross generalisation.
Example:
Samayachara and Dakshinachara Sri Vidya are very much part of the Shakta tradition, yet their worship of Devi as Lalita Tripurasundari can be completely vegetarian.
The focus is on mantra, Sri Chakra puja, japa, meditation and sattvik offerings, not meat or pashu bali.
These traditions have been practised for centuries across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala, and the Sri Vidya tradition is also closely associated with Adi Shankaracharya, particularly through the Saundarya Lahari and later Shankaracharya traditions. Important centres include Kanchipuram and Sringeri.
So being Shakta does not automatically mean meat or animal sacrifice.
When a man is in the mode of ignorance (рдЕрдЬреНрдЮрд╛рдирддрд╛) and cannot give up flesh, the Vedas give him a concession: тАЬAll right, sacrifice one goat before Kali on the dark-moon night, with proper mantra, and then eat.тАЭ That is restriction, not encouragement. It is meant to stop the opening of sl@ughterhouses.
Because the word m─Бс╣Бsa itself means: m─Бm (тАЬmeтАЭ) + sa (тАЬheтАЭ) тАФ тАЬhe will eat me.тАЭ The┬аman┬аwho┬аis┬а┬йutting┬аgoat's┬аthroat┬аwill┬аtake┬аbirth┬аas┬аa┬аgoat,┬аand┬аgoat┬аwill┬а┬йut┬аhis┬аthroat.тАЭ This is not culture.┬аThis┬аis┬аcalled┬аkarma-bandhana┬а(bondage in the cycle of birth & death).
Kali-devi, being the chaste wife of Lord Shiva, does not eat meat. The flesh is taken by the ghosts and raksasas who surround her. Those who eat it are eating the remnants of ghosts, not the remnants of the goddess.
If you wish to worship Durga as the mother of the universe, offer her your inner animalsтАФlust, anger, greedтАФnot a helpless goat. That is the instruction of the genuine acharyas. Following the previous generations blindly when they were in tamo-guna is not culture; it is simply repeating the same mistake.
This is simply the satisfaction of the tongue, dressed up as devotion.

Namaskaram,
We share your anguish during this agonizing period of uncertainty. Unfortunately, all participants of the Kailash Sojourn S3 group, which included Deepak Ahuja & Madhu Ahuja, were in the immigration center on the China side of the border when the disaster happened.
Our volunteer Gomathy (Sivakami) is in touch with the family and we are actively working with embassies in India, China, and Nepal as well as local authorities to ensure we have the latest accurate information. We remain committed to supporting the distressed families of participants and to the safety of all the other participants on the Kailash Sojourn.
Isha Volunteer.
