We’re wrapping up #WomenInConstructionWeek, highlighting some week events from our Layton #Hawaii team!

On Monday, NAWIC had their first ever event on Maui. The group got a tour of Layton’s Maui Coast Hotel project in Kihei.

Tuesday, the team toured all of the penthouse units at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua project we just wrapped, including the private rooftop pools.

Thursday, our Lihue office hosted NAWIC’s first ever event on Kauai. 120 people attended to celebrate Women in Construction Week 2023! We enjoyed live music, desserts, and pupus. All the women in the construction industry received a lei.

This past weekend, @HonoluluHabitat held its first of three workshops as part of the Wahine Build initiative that introduces girls to the construction industry, and several of our Layton wahine employees helped make it happen!

These workshops are exclusively for the young women of a school in Waimanalo on the island of Oahu, sponsored by the Hui Malama O Ke Kai Foundation, and are centered around construction projects that the girls can build themselves to align with the Wahine Build mission which is to get more women involved in construction.

This workshop included girls in sixth-eighth grade making chicken coops to be donated within their community. And let us be the first to say, they turned out 𝗘𝗚𝗚cellent.

“With the help and partnership of the local NAWIC chapter, we had so many strong women of the industry there to help guide the build by teaching the girls how to use tools and how to think through the building process,” said Layton Project Manager Melissa Humphrey, who is on the NAWIC board and the Wahine Build Committee. “We had every single girl learn to use and then operate a power drill—many for the first time!”

Today, we’re looking at the Kapiolani #Medical Center’s 200,000 SF Diamond Head Tower in #Honolulu, #Hawaii.

Completed on an extremely tight site, this master-planned campus expansion turned an outdated hospital into a state-of-the-art tower.

Also home to the @uhmanoa John A. Burns School of Medicine, it features 70 private NICU rooms, 26 PICU rooms, 12 obstetric beds, an adult med/surgery unit, outpatient clinic, rehabilitation services department, women’s services, conference/education rooms, and updated dietary and nutrition space. 

Prior to construction, the project required demolition of an old parking structure, relocation of existing utilities, and significant seismic upgrades

This project was critical work at Hawaii’s only children’s hospital, providing the community access to an advanced medical facility. It brings the best of healthcare to both Hawaii’s keiki and their ohana.

@prioritypasscom Yesterday we schlepped from terminal from Terminal C to B, exiting security to visit the BA lounge. Got there at 2:10 PM. It was closed. 😑

The gal who turned us away was super snarky. Like she was delighted to shut the door in our face. 😏 So then we had to exit security AGAIN, schlep back to Terminal C via Air Train, and go through security for the third time…for nothing. 🫠
