@luzantara@beh353 I agree that balance is key! I’ve definitely learned from this course that it doesn’t have to be an all or nothing change, and in fact those often lead to unhealthy relationships with food! Focusing on small swaps over time is such good advice for future pts! 🥑🥗@beh353#beh353
@HealthGov@USDANutrition As a future health care provider, understanding that everyone has different levels of health literacy is crucial for providing the best patient centered care. People may not even be aware of the effects their diet may be having on their health! #beh353@beh353

When working with patients in the future, before suggesting nutritional changes I will gather info about the SDOH that could be effecting my patient so I don’t make unrealistic diet change suggestions! I’ll also remember no 1 way of eating works best for everyone! @beh353#beh353
@nclarkrd@bostonmarathon This is a great link for runners! I wish I had seen this when I first started. I wasn’t properly fueling myself! This article shares the importance of ALL carbs: whole grains, fruit/veg, simple sugars and even refined grains. They all have a place in our diets! @beh353#beh353
@EmmaDArpinoRD I didn’t realize the importance of the language we use around food! I have heard many people/influencers use words like addiction, junk food, & guilty pleasure & now I see this doesn’t solve much, it just adds to diet culture and disordered eating! @beh353#beh353
@claire_weg@EmmaDArpinoRD@beh353 Hi claire! I agree! I found this so interesting, especially the fact that some frozen produce have even higher levels of vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals! Their affordability & shelf life make them super appealing to those on a budget or with limited time! @beh353#beh353
@FoodAdvocatesNY@CSPI@GovKathyHochul This is important to talk about and already the data shows us that income level is correlated to obesity and also lifespan and chronic disease rates. Offering healthy choices through school lunch is a promising potential solution to combatting childhood obesity! @beh353#beh353
After federal funding ended for universal school meals, many children are facing a hunger crisis & families are struggling with school meal debt. Students who rallied at the Capitol last week said it best: @GovKathyHochul must fully fund Healthy School Meals for All. #Meals4AllNY
This article does a great job at guiding parents on how to be good role models. It emphasizes not using food as a “reward” which can lead to disordered eating & It talks about making food at home vs going out with recipe examples! @beh353 #beh353 https://t.co/TQxOABxPni
@nutritionbypen @beh353 Hi penelope! I agree! I love how it emphasizes adding freshness like fruits and veg instead of restricting calories! It also highlights limiting processed foods which we have talked about as a huge area of concern. It does a good job not promoting diet culture! @beh353#beh353
@DrDavidKatz This is such a great reminder that weight is not always an indicator of health status. Far too often we use numbers on the scale as measurements for fitness/health but as this article and the one from class show, other bio markers are better (regardless of weight) @beh353#beh353
@gabbyadorno1@beh353 Such a good point! I feel we often get caught up in cause and effect relationships when there are a multitude of factors and components all intertwined that influence someone’s weight and their behaviors! Awareness of this helps to provide better pt centered care! @beh353#beh353
The biological reasoning from the article behind why weight loss is so hard to maintain really resonated with me! When I work w/ pts who struggle w/ their weight, it’s important I set goals for a healthier lifestyle (nutrition and activity) as opposed to lbs lost! @beh353#beh353
@TeamNutrition @USDANutrition This is 1 example of a way to address the health literacy/capital issue that influences obesity and people’s food choices! Starting good nutritional habits young is also important since we see that kids obese in preschool are 5x more likely to be obese as an adult @beh353#beh353
@luzantara@beh353 This is a great point to bring up! It shows the link between the social determinants of health, and obesity. It also shows that the bigger picture of access/availability of and attitudes around healthy food need to be considered when addressing this issue! @beh353#beh353
I was surprised to learn that chronic sleep restriction is linked to obesity! Physical activity and nutrition aspects receive most coverage, but as a future health care provider, I’ll be sure to emphasize the importance of sleep for a healthy lifestyle and weight! @beh353#beh353
@CSPI This reminds me of “make the healthy choice the easy choice” as offering soda with a meal is making the unhealthy choice the easy one. This promotes soda drinking habits at young ages, and we know how influential added sugars are on diabetes risk and obesity!🥤 @beh353#beh353
