Most conversations about terrorism in Nigeria start from the wrong place.
People lump every armed group together and conclude:
โTheyโre all terrorists.โ
Theyโre not.
Different groups have different motivations, funding sources, recruitment methods and end goals.
Understanding those differences is the first step to understanding why some conflicts disappear while others refuse to die.

Nigeriaโs insecurity isnโt one single conflict.
Itโs several conflicts happening simultaneously.
Broadly speaking:
๐ South-South: oil theft, pipeline vandalism and Niger Delta militant groups.
๐ South-East: separatist violence largely linked to IPOB and its armed offshoots.
๐ North-East: Boko Haram, ISWAP and other jihadist insurgents.
๐ North-West: banditry mixed with jihadist expansion and illegal mining.
๐ North-Central: communal violence, farmer-herder conflicts, illegal mining and the growing influence of armed groups.
Even though these conflicts sometimes overlap, their causes are not identical.
That means their solutions cannot be identical either.
This is me during my Shell Recruitment Day in November 2011.
1hr after the whole day group interview, I got the phone call I can never forget, โCongratulations, they all loved you. When can you start?โ
If you have an upcoming group interview where they put a bunch of you together in a room and give you a task to work on together, then sit up.
I will tell you my secrets.
I donโt need them anymore and it can help you land your dream job.
They are what I used during my SRD.
I have given the same playbook to many mentees who used them to land their dream jobs in various companies.
So, trust me, this works.
A ๐งต
I will kiss her cheeks and carry her and tell her I love her too.
Then some hours later drive with her in the car to get it fixed while she watches me negotiate with the mechanics the cost.
On our way back I will take her to her favourite treat spots like ice cream and go get her a writing gadget as well.
When we get home, I will bring out the bill and explain to her the financial implications of writing on Daddy's car and how much it cost daddy and explain how Daddy may struggle to pay her school fees and buy her her favourite things as a result of that.
Then we will do some fun writing sessions with the new writing gadget and teach her that it's best to write daddy and mommy letters with the device.
There is no surest tech route, but take the money and buy a used 350k laptop, then follow the next few instructions. I promise you, you'll be able to pay that 750k in 6 months or at worse, half of it.
Here's how you're going to spend the remaining 400k after you've gotten the laptop...
150k will pay for a product design course. I recommend you pay for a course because courses like these are structured for beginners to follow, but if you're like me that likes to rugged everything, go to YouTube and type: Product design for beginners.
Even if you pay for a course, still go to YouTube and spend the next 6 months there. Everyday, before you sleep at night, spend atleast one hour watching a YouTube video on design and figma. Also, spend one hour practicing daily. This is very important.
Next, use 150k for data for the next 4-6 months. I'll prefer you buy the 4G box that comes with unlimited data. It's usually about 20-30k monthly, depending on the network. Just make sure it's unlimited because you're going to be watching a lot of videos.
Lastly, use 100k to buy blue tick on X. This should pay for one year.
Why blue tick? To get more visibility because everyday as you're learning, you will be posting.
No, scratch that.
YOU MUST BE POSTING.
Day 1: Today is day one of learning product design. I have 6 months to learn this and make money, so that I can pay back my uncle.
Day 2: Today I learned how to use Figma. Figma is a bla bla bla
Day 3: Today I learned the principles of design. These are the principles and bla bla bla
.
.
By Day 180, two things would have happened.
You would have already started getting small gigs. 100k here. 50k there. 200k there.
If you have a good eye for design, and your designs are really good, you would have landed a remote paying role of above 350k-1m monthly.
So what if this does not happen in 6 months?
That means you didn't follow my instructions.
You skipped step!
And if you're wondering why I said product design and not any other tech route?
Check the comment. I wrote a post a few days ago of why I think product designers are going to be hot cake starting from next year.
All the best.
I no longer see anyone as lazy and unambitious. I have come to a better realisation that we all have different purposes in life to fulfil. For some people, they do not see a future thatโs worth pursuing or grinding for. For some, they pursue a path that seems like their lives depend on it. Certain people have no zeal for excellence; for them, there is comfort in mediocrity.
So rather than judge anyone by your own standards of living for excellence, live and let live.
We face challenges head-on and remain steadfast in our commitment to engage partners and champion Nigeria's interests on the diplomatic front. We are confidently asserting our presence on the global stage, guided by unwavering calm, clarity, and a strong sense of purpose.
We are indeed faced with terrorism - a challenge Nigeria has faced for almost two decades, and we will not back down. We will decisively defeat terrorism and claim victory in this battle. Security is non-negotiable, and we will never compromise on this principle. With unwavering courage and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, we will prevail.
Nigeria is one united family. We rise together, move forward together, and reject despair in favour of determination. Our future is far more robust and stronger than any fears we may have.
The task ahead is immense, yet our resolve is even greater. We will continue to sustain and build on our reform gains and deliver a prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.
We will spare no effort and leave no stone unturned in our mission to eliminate criminals from our society. We urge our allies to stand firmly with us as we amplify our fight against terrorism. We have made significant progress in the past two years and we will decisively eliminate this threat.
With courage and the rule of law, we will triumph.
Nigeria will be, and remain a reliable partner and dependable ally to its friends and a steady voice for stability. We also welcome the collaboration and support of our allies, friends, and partners as we strengthen both security and economic growth.
To the brave men and women of our armed forces and intelligence community united by purpose, regardless of tribe or religion, who serve fearlessly, fight side-by-side and sometimes pay the ultimate price, we express our deepest gratitude. Your commitment is our strength in the fight against terror.

1. When buying family properties, especially royal or traditional families, ensure that you are dealing with the Head of the family and at least two principal members of the family, who are adults. Anything short of this, the sale is NULL. Head of the family alone cannot sell family property and principal members of the family alone cannot sell family property. Itโs even worse if you are dealing just one person claiming to be the representative of the family.
2. When buying land from a company, ensure that you get the Status Report of the company before paying. Be certain that the property is not only registered in the name of the company but also the directors are the ones signing the documents with you. Insist on getting the means of identification of the seller. If they tell you they are selling on behalf of the family, refer to number 1 above by requesting for the Deed of Power of Attorney.
3. The fact that a property has a C of O is not a conclusive proof of title. You have to be certain that the C of O was not falsified or obtained by fraud or obtained over an encumbered property. Similarly, when a property is covered by a Deed of Assignment, ensure that it is a duly registered and stamped Deed and it is verified to be unencumbered. An unregistered Deed of Assignment cannot transfer a valid legal title. Ir is not different from a Contract of a sale of Land.
4. When buying property from a Church or Mosque, ensure that it is registered in the registered name of the Church or the Mosque. Also, make sure that you are dealing with the registered Trustees because not all Imams and Pastors are Trustees of the Church and Mosques. In most cases, they are just employees and get paid monthly salaries. So they cannot sell any property to you.
5. When buying property from a couple. If possible, request for their marriage certificate and do not deal with either the husband or wife. Make sure you deal with both of them. Donโt fall for, I have my husband or wife permission to sell. Also, make sure they both sign your documents in the presence of a witness. Otherwise, the sale can easily be set aside, especially when they are going through a divorce.
6. When buying a property thatโs a subject of a will. Donโt fall for โmy dad or mumโ willed it to me without sighting the will. Also, sighting the will is not enough, you must make sure that the will is not subject to any litigation and the Executors of the Will have issued an Assent to the beneficiary selling the property to you. Without the document called โAssentโ, no beneficiary can sell any property he or she inherited to you. Also, make sure you ask for a copy of the โProbateโ issued to the Executors; because thatโs the only document that gives the Executors the power to issue Assent. If itโs not a will, then ensure you have a copy of the Letters of Administration. Without this, you have not acquired a property.
7. When buying a property from a Developer, the title documents are not enough. Ask for development or building permits. Ask for evidence of payment of ground rents and land use charges on the property.
