(1) I was a month old when LBJ challenged U. of Michigan graduates 58 yrs ago today to join in building a Great Society. History proved LBJ correct in predicting a long ongoing battle to build a Great Society & define America as more than a nation of "soul-less wealth".

One of the great moments of my life was meeting John Lewis a day before he (and my former boss) were sworn in as freshman Members of Congress in Jan. 1987. 61 yrs ago today, he and other Freedom Riders were beaten by white mobs as they protested segregation laws in the South.
