I am pleased to announce that Government is targeting the construction of at least 1 350 schools from November 2026, backed by over US$600 million, to eliminate the national school infrastructure deficit by 2029. Every child deserves a safe, decent place to learn.
I, supported by @edtvoice, @UKinZimbabwe and @thinkequalorg, wish to highlight that @MoPSEZim has successfully sensitised educators across all 10 provinces on the Think Equal Social & Emotional Learning programme. Today, we concluded this important process in Harare Province at Queen Elizabeth High School. This programme empowers our teachers to cultivate empathy, resilience, and emotional intelligence in learners skills that are indispensable for nurturing responsible, compassionate citizens who will shape Zimbabwe’s future.
I am pleased to announce that this week, @MoPSEZim, with the valued support of @UNESCO, is conducting a Digital Literacy and Artificial Intelligence training workshop for 37 primary and secondary school teachers at The Village Lodge in Gweru, Midlands Province.
I believe this ICT training will significantly enhance classroom delivery, empowering our teachers with modern digital skills and preparing our learners for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. By equipping educators with knowledge in digital literacy and artificial intelligence, we are building a strong foundation for innovation, creativity, and critical thinking in our schools.
I remain committed to transforming Zimbabwe’s education sector, ensuring that every child benefits from quality teaching that embraces technology and global best practices.
It is a great honour to join fellow African Ministers of Education at this 11th Africa Day of School Feeding. This gathering is a testament to our shared commitment to nurturing the future of our continent through investment in the well-being of our learners.
The theme of this year’s commemoration “Ensuring Access to Nutritious Meals, Clean Water, and Hygiene Promoting Safety and Resilience in every School Meal Investment” resonates deeply with Zimbabwe’s vision for inclusive and quality education. We recognize that a child who is nourished, hydrated, and healthy is better positioned to learn, thrive, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Zimbabwe is proud to be a signatory to the School Meals Coalition, and under the Second Republic, guided by the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Cde Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa, we have prioritized the provision of at least one hot meal to learners in our schools. This initiative is not merely about food; it is about dignity, equity, and opportunity.
The impact has been profound:
✅️Increased school attendance as children are motivated to come to school knowing they will receive a nutritious meal.
✅️Improved performance in public examinations, as learners are better able to concentrate and engage with their studies.
✅️Enhanced community participation, as parents and local stakeholders join hands to support school feeding programmes.
As we commemorate this Africa Day of School Feeding, Zimbabwe reaffirms its commitment to strengthening partnerships, scaling up investments, and ensuring that no child is left behind. Together, as Africans, we must continue to build resilient systems that safeguard the health, Education, and future of our children.
"In the mining sector, our policy is unequivocal. Zimbabwe is no longer satisfied with being a supplier of raw minerals. Under my Administration focus is on local processing, diversifying downstream industries, technology transfer and stronger linkages across the economy"
This afternoon it was my distinct honour to witness a profoundly generous and patriotic act of Philanthropy as Acting President Colonel (Rtd) Dr. K.C.D. Mohadi officially handed over three brand-new buses to Dudley Hall Primary School Landa John Nkomo, High School, and Highlanders Football Club. These buses were graciously donated by esteemed local businessman Mr Wicknell Chivayo @wicknellchivayo
This timely donation comes at a critical moment for our Education sector and community institutions. For Dudley Hall Primary School in Norton where Mr. Chivayo himself began his foundational Education and Landa John Nkomo High School in Tsholotsho these modern 75-seater buses each valued at approximately US$210,000 will greatly ease pupil transportation challenges particularly for those in rural and peri-urban areas. Safe reliable transport means more consistent school attendance reduced fatigue for learners and enhanced opportunities for extracurricular activities field trips and access to quality Education.
As Minister of Primary and Secondary Education I am deeply encouraged by such targeted support that directly bolsters Teaching and Learning in our schools. The handover to Highlanders Football Club further demonstrates Mr Chivayo's commitment to nurturing talent youth development and national pride through sport. This luxurious executive bus equipped with amenities to support team travel will enable Bosso to compete more effectively in the 2026 Premier Soccer League season and beyond honouring the legacy of the late Vice President Cde John Landa Nkomo, a devoted supporter of the club.On behalf of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, the Learners, Teachers, Parents and the wider Zimbabwean community,I extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr Wicknell Chivayo for his unwavering generosity and vision in empowering our future generations. Such private sector initiatives aligned with Government priorities exemplify the spirit of Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo building the nation hand in hand .To Acting President Mohadi ,thank you for gracing this meaningful occasion and for your continued leadership in fostering unity and development across all sectors.
I am delighted to share that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is actively engaging our Tech Working Group to present the Safeguarding & Gender Equity, Disability & Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Strategy. This comprehensive strategy, developed with invaluable support from our longstanding partner, the Education Development Trust (EDT) marks a pivotal advancement in our ongoing efforts to foster safe, equitable, and truly inclusive education environments for every learner in Zimbabwe.
By strengthening robust learner protection mechanisms, championing gender equity, ensuring meaningful inclusion for learners with disabilities, and promoting broader social inclusion we are upholding our core commitment to leave no child behind. This aligns seamlessly with our Heritage-Based Curriculum, the principles of Unhu/Ubuntu, and national development priorities. We extend our sincere gratitude to Education Development Trust
for their continued collaboration and technical expertise in realizing this vision. Together with all stakeholders, we remain resolute in building a modern, inclusive Education System that empowers every child to reach their full potential.
