I know there are good ways that culture affects patterns of thinking
(Tho not off the top of my head)
But I‘m frustrated at realizing how any certain opinion/action of mine (from clothing style to food choice to interaction w/others) is unconsciously influenced by my surroundings
You know when you’re sitting somewhere in public talking on the phone and you find yourself just mindlessly staring at someone in a daze?
Yeah so does this guy at Panera who has watched me eat my entire Fuji Apple Chicken salad.
It doesn’t matter how much notice I have. Every time I have to accomplish a particular task, I have zero motivation until I’m almost out of time. I wait until it’s a race to beat the clock. Every. Dang. Time. It’s like a sick game that I force myself to play in real life.
@RevDuv Don’t get me wrong. I’m not against all forms of media haha. (As if that must be stated as I tweet back at you.) There has never been a NEED for our modern entertainment, yet an embarrassing percentage of Americans prioritize their lives as if it is a necessity.
I can’t even remember the last time I watched Netflix and I haven’t missed it at all. Then I think back on the hours upon hours I wasted on it in college. Ugh.
Entertainment sucks us in so quickly and consumes our irreplaceable time. And it’s completely worthless.
@RevDuv I’m just not sure that I have ever seen it used properly. One substantial problem is that we (our cultural in general) seriously lack self control. I also think most healthy mental stimulation can be found in books & physical conversations.
The kids in my class were playing with kitchen toys this morning and one little boy decided to wear a little plastic pot like a hat and went around showing everyone saying, “Look! I’m a pothead!”

I made up a song about grass with one of my 3 year olds a couple weeks ago just because he was sad and wanted me to sing a song about grass.
I have not gone a day since without catching myself singing the dang grass song.
