Roman Anthony's deal with the Red Sox will start in 2026 and includes significant escalators that could take the maximum value of the deal to $230 million. Depending on where he finishes in AL Rookie of the Year voting, it would buy out three or four years of free agency.

BREAKING: Outfielder Roman Anthony and the Boston Red Sox are finalizing an eight-year, $130 million contract extension, sources tell ESPN. The deal, which is pending a physical, includes a club option and will keep Anthony under team control through 2034.

🏀Celtics save considerable money this year and moving forward with this trade, pending a new deal for Anfernee Simons.

🏀Boston gets a shooter/scorer when they'll need that with Jayson Tatum out.

🏀Portland makes an upgrade with their defense...unless they re-route Jrue Holiday again.

I'm sad to see Jrue Holiday go. He and his family had talked about making Boston home. He was such a massive part of the 2024 title. Really enjoyed his time with the Celtics.

Unfortunately, this is life as a second apron team. Have to keep chipping away, while not downgrading too much.

Under Brad Stevens, the Celtics never make the moves you hear all the buzz about. They do a pretty good job of working in silence. That helps them as a trade partner, because the other side doesn’t have to worry about the talks leaking out.

NEW STORY: Marcus Smart and his wife brought their two-month-old son, Zayn, to the game Saturday. Smart wanted to introduce Zayn to the Celtics players and staffers. He also wanted Zayn to be there to experience the love for Smart inside TD Garden, even if Zayn can’t understand it yet.

“One day,” Smart told me, “he can understand, he can see the impact his dad had on the city and on the team where he started his journey.”

When Xander Bogaerts signed with the Padres, all the Red Sox had to show for it was a compensation pick, and not even an early one. They were over the luxury tax, so the pick got pushed back to the equivalent of a fourth rounder.

The player they got with that pick was Kristian Campbell, Baseball America's prospect of the year. I don't think there's a chance in hell the Red Sox would trade Campbell for Bogaerts at this point. Perhaps the best draft pick by the team since Mookie Betts given when the selection took place.

Just so people know what the Celtics are getting into on draft night (s) - The 30th overall pick is guaranteed money. When you add the tax, Boston will be spending more than $9 million on that pick (depends on what they do w/Hauser, Kornet, end of bench)

I could be wrong, but I can virtually guarantee there's no one at 30 worth that kind of money for an extended time. No one at 30 is cracking this rotation. The preference would be to use the 2way slots to develop a guy for a couple of seasons and then upgrade if they need to.
