@stephen_richer Absolutely true. Grades reflect the grading curve in a given school, and vary massively. Rec letters reflect the writer more than the subject of the rec. And the cultural biases have been gone for two generations.
@stephen_richer@Timodc Any scheme to give tax breaks to some group always shifts the burden to everyone. Want the lowest possible tax rates? Tax all income, no exceptions.
As someone trained in evaluation research, I can tell you that the most likely cause is self-selection of students. Change data (gains in student scores) would be more convincing. But only a random assignment experiment would be definitive.
Want to know why school choice is worth protecting? Just take a look at this report. Arizona charter schools as a group, on 8th grade NAEP scores, out performs every other state in the nation and light years better than the performance of traditional public schools.
@brahmresnik I thought there was a 1 vote min. I may be wrong on that point. But the exact math is NOT the point. The point is that large landowners control the process. As a practical matter they can't be outvoted. This applies to one of the two boards, the other is democratically elected
